49ers knock off Saint Louis in men's soccer


Goals from senior midfielders Luke Exley and Adam Gross led the Charlotte 49ers men’s soccer team to a 2-1 win over host Saint Louis on Saturday, extending the 49ers 11-game unbeaten streak.

Charlotte (8-1-3, 2-0-1) scored the game’s first goal when Exley blasted a shot into the back of the net from 35 yards out in the 16th minute. The 49ers' second second goal came when Nathan Mathers crossed the ball from the right side of the field to Gross on the left side. Gross put the ball into the back of the net from 12 yards out in the 27th minute.

Saint Louis (7-5, 2-1) cut the 49ers' lead in half when Benny Estes scored off assists from Alex Sweetin and James Jaramillo in the 75th minute.

Charlotte returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday when its hosts La Salle at Transamerica Field.
