Prep star Davila passing on Niners

Although there is still time for him to change his mind, it looks like standout prep star Victor Davila has decided to pass on joining the Charlotte 49ers and appears primed to commit to Virginia Tech.

Davila, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound center who plays at Boonville Starmount High, is expected to cancel his official visit to Charlotte scheduled for next weekend and could announce a verbal commitment to the Hokies any day, several sources said Thursday night.

Davila, ranked No. 136 in Rivals.com's list of the top 150 recruits in the 2008 class, recently narrowed his college choices to Virginia Tech, Charlotte, Wake Forest and Clemson.

Last season, Davila averaged 20.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 3.3 blocks per game at Starmount. He made an unofficial visit to the Charlotte campus last winter.

In other recruiting news, the 49ers are keeping a close eye on Charlotte Latin junior David Chadwick Jr., a 6-9 center who has started gaining interest nationally. Chadwick's father, David Chadwick Sr., played college basketball at North Carolina.

Among the other schools expressing interest in Chadwick are Davidson, Clemson and Virginia Tech. Charlotte already has one Latin grad on its roster, redshirt freshman Charles Dewhurst who sat out last season with a high ankle sprain.

I understand that the fact that Bobby only has 2 years left on his contract made it uncomfortable for Davila's "stateside" family to consider us, despite a great relationship with the coaches, especially "BK".
Oh well, when you dabble in other jobs and everyone knows your contract from the reports, the other coaches will kill you with it.

Victor, don't make a stupid mistake by going to VT. Bobby killed Greenburg when he was at USF. Come win an A-10 championship while you are at Charlotte. Also, you can represent the city that has helped you get where you are.

Lutz will get a contract extension this season. His letter to the Charlotte fans laid out how much passion and commitment he has to the program.
Why Mr Davila would want to play for a bottom team in the ACC compared to historically(not the past year) to Charlotte I don't know. Charlotte has a top 15 recruiting class this year so things are looking good for the future, but Davila would help.

i don't know if you've been watching college basketball lately but VTech is no longer a bottom feeder in basketball

There is no way you can say that over the last 10 years VT has had a better basketball program than Charlotte. Last year, yes, the past ten years not a chance!
I think Victor would be smart to come to Charlotte and help get them back to the top 25 where they were a few years ago. Also, it would be cool to see a Charlotte boy stay and play here.

Uh, he's not a Charlotte boy.
