It's early but Atlantic 10 ranks high

It's very early in the 2009-10 men's basketball season, but so far there's good news for the Atlantic 10 Conference.

As of Thursday, the 14-team conference was ranked third in conference RPI by RealTimeRPI.com and collectively the conference's strength of schedule was ranked the 12th best in the country.

The Charlotte 49ers (2-1), who suffered a lopsided loss Tuesday at Duke in the NIT Season Tip-Off tournament currently, have an RPI of 74. The 49ers have two more games in the tournament: vs. Yale on Monday and at Hofstra on Tuesday.

You can check out the rankings here.

No one in the conference has played more than three games, so this doesn't really mean anything. However, it's nice to see we are off to a good start. Dayton looks especially good. There are about 5 or 6 teams in the A10 that have postseason caliber talent.

And Charleston Southern has the #6 RPI in the nation per that site.

It is early, way too early. The RPI discussion shouldn't even begin until mid January, even then it has a long way to go.

I agree, why bother even mentioning this yet, if you click on it right now, it says charlotte is 85...UNC is ranked extremly low...can someone tell me what useful information the RPI actually gives at this point.

All that aside, Charlotte is a much better team than last year, can't wait for the rest of the season! GO NINERS!
