Former 49ers men's basketball coach Bobby Lutz has taken an assistant coach's job at Iowa State.
Lutz -- fired by Charlotte in March -- was in Ames, Iowa, today earlier and is headed back to Charlotte this afternoon.
He'll be of immediate aid to new Cyclones coach Fred Hoiberg, who hasn't been a head coach before. Lutz said he expects to sign a two- or three-year contract, but the deal hasn't yet been finalized.
I'll be talking to Lutz later today and will have more on this early this evening.

David, you must have been reading NN.net this afternoon. Is that where our new beat writer is going to get all his info?
GET HIM OFF OUR PAYROLL!!!
The problem at UNC-C wasn't Bobby Lutz, but rather Athletic Director Ms. Judy Rose. Time will show that she, not he, should have been fired!
Oh, fer cryin' out loud... Just wish him well and move on... Good for you Coach - hope you do well in Ames.
Good luck Bobby!
good riddance
