Barnette passes on Red Sox for 49ers

Right-hand pitcher Tyler Barnette, who was taken by the Boston Red Sox in June's Major League Draft, will play for the Charlotte 49ers instead. Barnette didn't sign a contract with the Red Sox by Monday's midnight deadline and is expected to enroll at Charlotte for the fall semester.
Barnette, who played at Hickory High, was drafted in the ninth round by the Red Sox. He had already committed to Charlotte before the draft but until Monday had not decided whether to turn pro or play in college. He'll be eligible for the draft again after his junior season at Charlotte.

Love how the 14th rounder (Linton) NOT going to UNCCH got the BIG story, while the 9th rounder deciding to attend Charlotte somehow got thrown in as an afterthought.

Well, the Linton kid is from Charlotte. And, he attended Charlotte Christian and was a 2-sport stud there. Just saying. Sometimes it's best to just zip it.
