The Charlotte 49ers picked up a commitment this week from Pierria Henry, a 6-foot-3 senior all-state wing at South Charleston (W.Va.) High, a source confirmed today.
Henry, who also had an offer to play football at Marshall, is the fourth player in the class of 2011 for coach Alan Major, joining shooting guard Terrence Williams of West Mecklenburg, forward E. Victor Nickerson of Norcross, Ga., and center Mike Thorne of Fayetteville's Trinity Christian.
Henry is averaging 21.3 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals.

Nice signing. ESPN had him as a 4 Star until he originally verballed with VCU (before dropping them for Charlotte)over some "bigger name" schools. They then immediately dropped him from a 4 star to a 2 star.
Don't you know players are only good in the BCS?
ESPN, Rivals, and Scout are all businesses and adjust their rankings to sell subscriptions.
If a high level prospect commits to a non-power conference team, chances are, it will sell fewer subscriptions than if the player committed (or is being recruited by) high level programs.
Rankings have merit, but once you get out of about the top 25, they increasingly become a crap shoot.
Also, I'm very happy to see Mr. Henry joining the Niners.
Major has put together an impressive class for a first year coach.
I'm glad he was able to snag Ryan Odom from VT. Odom seems to have great recruiting relationships.

Pierria Henry Commits To UNC-Charlotte

South Charleston's Pierria Henry has chosen basketball over football. Henry says he will play basketball for UNC-Charlotte next season.
"I felt so much connected with the coaching staff," Henry said. "The Atlantic 10 isn't a bad conference and also they beat Georgia Tech and they beat Tennessee. They beat ranked teams and the coaching staff just does a great job of not only coaching you as a basketball player, but building your character as a man and that's what I really like."
The two-sport standout had both football and basketball offers to play at Marshall as well as several other scholarship offers for basketball. Earlier last year, he had committed to Virginia Commonwealth, but then later reopened the recruiting process.
In the end, Henry says picking UNC-Charlotte was the best overall decision for him.
"I'm just blessed that they stuck with me and they stayed faithful to me," Henry said. "It's just a blessing that that whole coaching staff and even the players is a big ole family. I'm going to be away from home and that's what I need. I'm a family guy and I'm going to miss my family dearly. I'm going to miss Charleston -- Charleston made me who I am. But in the same token, my grandpa and my grandma that passed away would want me to do what's best for me and where I would be happy and comfortable knowing I'll be successful in life outside of basketball."

Great pick up. These recruits will bring much needed depth. Don't forget about the addition of DeMario Mayfield. That is a solid incoming 5 for coach Major's 1st year. The existing players must really be buying into coach Major given this recruits comments of the team being family.

You guys don't know what you are talking about. This may not be a stud lineup for some of the better BCS schools, but it is a quality incoming class for a mid-major school. This is the 2nd best class in the A-10 behind Xavier, and one of the best in the mid-majors. That is the conference we must play well in and win in. We'll still get a chance to beat some of the ACC and SEC schools when they are not scared to schedule us.
