49ers preseason A-10 golf favorites

The 49ers, who have won five straight Atlantic 10 golf championships, are favored to do so again this season.

Charlotte is the preseason favorite to win another title in a vote by the league's coaches.

The 49ers received seven first-place votes and got 114 points. Richmond and Xavier are picked to finish second and third, respectively.

Charlotte is the second school in league history to win five straight golf championships. Penn State won five in a row from 1986-91.

Charlotte's most recent league title came last season when it won by 18 shots. Corey Nagy was the individual medalist. The conference tournament returns to the Mission Inn Golf & Tennis Resort in Orlando, Fla., from April 29-May 1.

I think this is Richmond's year to take it. Charlotte is going to have to get very lucky to ever get another player of Corey's caliber. He would have been a top player in the ACC, SEC, Big 12 and Pac-10

You're crazy 1:55. You do know Charlotte has been to 5-6 straight NCAA tourneys, had 2 top 10 finishes including a 3rd place in 2007-08. Corey was a great one, but we've had (and do have) many others of similar calibre. Charlotte has become a golf-powerhouse whether anyone in the area knows it or not.

....and were ranked #1 in the Nation for a while 2 years ago.

They have come a long way from the days when Floyd "P.E." Kerr and Barry "Droopy" Draughn were the coaches

Please tell me who is as good as Corey in the past or present. Another big key missing from those great Charlotte teams was Jamie Green. He managed to get Corey and a bunch of great players from up north over a few years.

Charlotte is still a good team, by no means a powerhouse though.

Richmond's team is like Charlotte's from a few years ago. A great young coach. Some kids who blossomed once they got to college. And a great player who stayed home for school. What they have that Charlotte doesn't though is a world class golf facility.
