Observations: Radford

Observations from Charlotte's 68-52 victory against Radford on Wednesday:

-- This was a game the 49ers should have won handily, and they did (despite the Highlanders cutting it to 12 with three minutes left). Charlotte (11-1) had plenty of defensive intensity early and was able to outscore Radford 50-28 in the paint. Although seven of the 49ers' previous 10 victories had been in double figures, they hadn't gotten out of the gate as decisively as they did Wednesday.

-- That leads Charlotte to Saturday, when the 49ers face Florida State at Time Warner Cable Arena. Things didn't go too well the last time they faced an ACC team -- a 31-point loss to Miami (Charlotte's only loss of the season) last Friday. Players say they learned from that game -- mostly that they have to compete from the opening tip -- and this will be a chance for some redemption. But facing the defending ACC tournament champs Seminoles will be a challenge.

-- Radford had two players from Charlotte in its starting lineup: senior guard Blake Smith (United Faith Christian) and freshman point guard Rashun Davis (Davidson Day), who replaced the injured R.J. Price (ankle), the Highlanders’ second-leading scorer.

-- Heard that 5,300 seats had been sold as of Wednesday to Saturday’s game against Florida State. So, plenty of good ones are still available.

-- Charlotte center Chris Braswell usually comes into the game after four or five minutes. He often announces his presence by shooting a 3-pointer, which sometimes goes in.

-- This season's 9-0 start this season was the best in 49ers history; Charlotte's 11-1 record has now been matched only by the 1976-77 Final Four team's 13-1 start and the 11-1 start of the 1991-92 team that won the Metro Conference title.

This team's start might match the start of the 76-77 season and the 91-92 season but those 2 teams would beat this team by 20. With that said I hope this team proves me wrong and finishes with only one loss.

The crowd is going to be sparse for Saturdays game. Why would they schedule a game at TWC during Christmas break?

There will be 8-9000 there Saturday.....would have been MUCH more though if not during students Christmas break or even if it was at night during the week....more uptown workers would have shown as in past games at TWC.

The game was scheduled at christmas because Miami was given the upperhand in the negotiation.
When our school doesnt know how to put together a schedule we get abuncha krap teams and inconvenient tip off times.

Ian Miller of FSU is from Charlotte. It is a way to get him to play in his town. And, FSU would never play "us" with a full crowd of students. We get what we can because when you see our schedule you know we can't be picky.

All these clowns who come on here and whine about the schedule should be condemned to their own personal Hell where they are forever calling Big 6 schools and trying to convince them it is in their interest to play the 49ers where and when Charlotte wants.

You can't get ready for the U's and FSUs by playing this schedule.

the green kool aid clowns are dead wrong on the schedule, Bobby Lutz was FORCED by Judy Rose to play a top 100 SOS. Judy also hacked Lutz in public when she fired him saying "19 wins isn't so good when you look who we played"
So back at ya Judy and Major, your 11 wins amount to nothing but the 245th easiest schedule. 9 games vs 200+ RPI
Props to John Kilgo for appropriately RIPPING our AD last week about poor marketing.

Yes, Rose showed her absolute hatred for Bobby by forcing him to play a good schedule. Uh huh, uh huh.
Marketing, on the other hand, I agree is poor.

who has a better marketing strategy:
1 Charlotte DSS
2 NRA
3 Charlotte 49ers
4 Nascar HOF
5 Bob Johnson Bobcats name

Its not at all Judy showing her hatred for Bobby by making him play a tough schedule!
Its Judy showing her incompetence by giving Majors an extension after playing a week schedule! - Which he will get!!!

Anonymous said...

And yes it is a week schedule because there are only 5-7 tough games the entire season!

^ The schedule is much longer than a week. Lol, but no, the schedule is not as WEAK as you think. There are plenty of tough games coming up in conference.
