The Charlotte 49ers have signed Florida-transfer Braxton Ogbueze, a point guard who was a top-100 prospect when he left Charlotte's United Faith Christian Academy two years ago.
Ogbueze (6-foot-0) didn't play much last season for the Gators, getting in just 23 games and playing a total of 107 minutes. He'll have three seasons of to play with the 49ers when he becomes eligible in the 2014-15 season. He began his high school career at Vance High, before transferring to United Faith, where he averaged 21.9 points and 3.8 assists as a senior. He shot 60.9 percent from the field and 54.2 percent from 3-point range his senior season.
Ogbueze's father Godwin is a former Clemson soccer player and is eighth on the Tigers' career scoring list.
Ogbueze is the second transfer the 49ers have signed recently who won't be eligible until 2014-15, joining forward Bernard Sullivan from Clemson.
Another transfer, shooting guard Ben Cherry (Tulane) will be eligible for the 2013-14 season. The 49ers also signed freshman forward Cameron Blakely last week.
There is still plenty of room on Charlotte's roster for next season, with forwards Darion Clark and E. Victor Nickerson transferring out.

Good stuff. But, how do these guys help us in 2013-14? Are the 49ers just going to be better at practice than in games? Unfortunately, this means we may have another year of Minor Major.
The culture changed in which way? We are now Transfer Out and Transfer In U? Wait, what were we before Mi-Major? What a sad state of affairs.
Troll. Who said next years team will be bad? Return too potential all league guys who are still young. Think we will finish top 4 in league. Trajectory is positive if you are paying attention at all. Clark and Nickerson are replacement role guys.
Great pickup for Major. Ogbueze was ranked 4 stars on Rivals/Scout and received a 96 grade on ESPN coming out of high school. Rivals had him at #48 best in the class on 2012; also 6th best PG guard in the nation. With a deep back court of Lester, Henry and Ogbueze in 2014, Charlotte will eat C-USA teams alive. I'm excited to see what the next few years bring. I love that Ogbueze shot over 50% from the field too. He will provide a great outside threat will be able to knock down 3's.
Is this the best pickup for Charlotte since Braswell? Goldwire?
...Great pickup by Majors after Andrew Wiggins went to Kansas.
Great job Major!!!
Love all the scrubs we're picking up from other teams...all ex-local guys too. Guess there wasn't much of a sell job for Low-Major to make. "Uh...you got six open schollies and II want to play in front of my friends and family...if I can't play where I'm at. Can I use your gym?"
Misery love company! Get a life! There are over 340 Division I basketball programs! Talent has to be spread over this number of schools! After the BCS schools take their pickings, there isn't a lot to croak about! Let's sees, we are picking up an ACC-caliber player and a SEC-caliber player and all you can do is be negative.
Doesn't anybody love you? Is not your glass half full instead of half empty! oh misery loves company! Go Niners and continue to represent Charlotte and Metrolina! Oh by the way, who did you play for?
These are phenomenal pickups!! I can't believe there is any negativity. Ogbueze, Blakely, Sullivan, Clayton, Henry, Lester and Thorne. This is seriously a Sweet 16 caliber squad. E-Vick and Clark are no where near the caliber players we gain.
I don't think that Major is the coach for Charlotte. It has nothing to do with race and everything to do with his inability to recruit with the "big dogs" and build a culture. I think Melvin Watkins was the best coach at recruiting that Charlotte has ever had.
I think it's time to move on and find a good young coach that is willing to commit to the players, program, school and community and Shaka Smart has done at VCU.
Well - i am not an Alan Major fan.. But i will give him credit for getting two four star recruits on transfers. Braxton was the top recruit for Florida last year and Bernard was the top one for Clemson two seasons ago. Now if we can just put together a decent season this year. With transfers he has made it hard to get fired at the end of the next season because he can point to these two as the guys that turn it around. My guess is Major is here for a few more years unless Judy gets fired.
GO NINERS!! Trolls: just GO!
Anonymous 3:44: is that the best you got? What a panty waist goofball! Go back to sniffing Major's jock strap...
We are going to win the CIAa next year and we WILL make it to the D2 playoffs! You trolls can kiss my tightie white! Word!
The average transfer rate for NCAA D1 basketball is 2 per year. No need to jump off the ship. Looking forward to Braxton being a Niner!
Most teams have fans that always look forward to next year. We Niners have surpassed that standard. Yessirree. We don't mess with looking forward to next season. We look forward to 2 seasons from now. We now think it's ok to not be good next year as long as we have hope for 2 years in the future.
^^^^
Yes, looking forward to one year clearly precludes looking forward to the other.
Oh wait. This just in. It is possible to be better next year and better still the year after.
