Charlotte 49ers back with WFNZ

The Charlotte 49ers have signed a three-year deal to return to Charlotte's WFNZ (610-AM) to broadcast men's basketball and football games.

The deal also includes pre-game and coaches shows throughout both seasons, as well as a daily "49ers Minute" during the morning drive. Some baseball and women's basketball games will also be included. If there is a conflict with WFNZ's broadcast of Charlotte Hornets' NBA games, 49ers games will move to sister station WBCN (1660-AM).

The deal was brokered by IMG College, the 49ers' media rights holder. 49ers basketball games were broadcast on WFNZ from 1994 through 2011, when they switched to  WZGV (730-AM). That three-year contract is expiring this spring, with WZGV switching to Appalachian State football and basketball.

Excellent! The "49ers minute" should help remind the morning show crew that there actually is real life outside of the ACC.

Does this mean T-Bone will have another team?

WFNZ was a poor host for the 49ers when we were last radio partners with that station. Their prime time "talent" back then openly ridiculed the 49ers when we were regularly beating top 10 teams. That station has a lot to prove to most 49ers fans.

This means everyone at wfnz has to suffer through the Alan Majors Coachs Show...
That should be enough revenge for them treating us like krap.

No one will listen to this besides the 1500 - 2000 unc concord fans.
Terrible move for this 2nd rate station. They haven't been relevant since mark packer left.

Come on guys they normally run neck in neck with the Spanish Stations. Would rather wake up to buzzards eating my dead soul off the hot pavement on a Carolina August Day than listen to WFNZ. CBS's radio version of a loss leader for WSOC and WPEG keep Bill comfortable in his corner office while DJ plays around town acting the "Big Shot".

Appalachian is a better choice and ESPN 730 is a better choice. The ORIGINAL Panthers Play-by-Play man knows sports. They rarely talk rasslin'. UNCC has a great opportunity yet Judy Rose has no business in charge. At this time App Sate has more upside

Nice try. Charlotte elected to move because App overpaid to get on 730. We could have matched or exceeded it but decided to go back to the stronger of the 2 sports stations.
