49ers' Roberts makes 2nd team freshman AA team

Charlotte pitcher Corey Roberts was named to Baseball America's freshman All-American second team.

Roberts, who played at Charlotte's Olympic High, led the 49ers with six victories and also led the Atlantic 10 with a 3.81 ERA and also made the league's all-freshman team.

49ers make staff changes

The Charlotte 49ers made some moves in the athletics department Friday:

-- Chris Thomasson was promoted to associate athletics director in charge of compliance and championships. Thomasson has been with the 49ers since 2005.

-- Hudson Jacobs has been named video coordinator for men's and women's basketball. He had been administrative assistant for the women's basketball and volleyball teams and is a former student manager for N.C. State's women's basketball team.

-- Scott Byrd was named assistant director of compliance. A North Carolina graduate, he's a former director of compliance at N.C. State and was a compliance specialist at Wake Forest.

-- Jesse Garber was named assistant ticket manager.

Goetschius wins bronze

Charlotte's Amanda Goetschius won the bronze medal in the 10,000 meters at the NACACA Under-23 Championships at Miramar, Fla., today. Goetschius, a rising senior for the 49ers, had a time of 37:18.81 minutes. Goetschius was an All-American in the 5,000 meters for the 49ers last season.
