Observations from 49ers' win over Gardner-Webb

-Tyler Lewis, one of the most highly touted high school sophomore guards in the country, was on hand for Charlotte’s win Saturday over Gardner-Webb. After the game, Lewis said he is considering several colleges but Charlotte and Wake Forest were at the top of his list. “I don’t feel any pressure at all but I’m not going to make my decision until the end of my junior year,” Lewis said. Lewis is the younger brother of 49ers walk-on Colby Lewis, a freshman.

-Charlotte’s versatility is showing up even before games get out of hand on the scoreboard. The 49ers had eight different players score in the first 11 minutes of the game, including six straight to start the game by freshman forward Chris Braswell.

-The 49ers student section was on the attack again, twice – once before the game and once before the second half started – heckling fans in the stands that were wearing apparel from other schools besides Charlotte.

-Charlotte officials had no sooner notified the attending media that point guard DiJuan Harris would likely miss the rest of the game after rolling his left ankle in the first half when Harris burst from the locker room and rejoined his teammates.

Those niners are for real this year. I think the biggest difference in this year's team and last year's...is that we are winning the games we are SUPPOSED to win this year. Last year we would beat a good team and then lose to someone awful. I am very proud of them so far, I hope i dont jinx them lol. Bobby Lutz is the man and the new guys are stepping up big time.

the difference is we have an inside outside game. teams have to respect both the paint and the arc and that opens up everything.

We all know it is the mustache.

too bad Western Carolina beat Louisville to slightly downgrade our marquee win today... Go Niners though!

Not sure how WCU "downgraded" your so called marquee win seeing as how both WCU and UNCC only have 1 loss and WCU put up a more respectable showing against Texas than UNCC did against Duke....

I think all he means is that Louisville was definitely not of top 25 caliber and now its showing. They have lost Charlotte and now WCU who are good this season, but not top 25 themselves.

Niner fans now have to step back and question whether it was really a good win or just a win against a team that was overrated. Either Charlotte and WCU are contenders for a top 25 ranking or Louisville is a lot worse than expected.

The thing with the Louisville win was when we beat them, all of the media said that we beat an injury depleated Louisville team. Now that WCU beat them, the media isn't saying anything about Louisville being injury depleated.

The only way this Niner team is going to get any respect is to go out and beat Georgia Tech and Tennessee. A possible 11-1 record going into those 2 games won't mean anything unless they come out at least 1-1 from those 2 games.

I remember once upon a time when a 49er team beat #3 (and undefeated) Cincinnati at home and every cried it was the inadvertent whistle.

They weren't crying anymore when we whooped them later that year in the conference tournament in Louisville.

Let the criers cry, we have the SWAGGER.

I'm glad to see the 49ers are off to good start and I hope this level of play continues throughout the season.
