49ers requesting basketball APR be adjusted

The Charlotte 49ers had three programs -- golf, men's cross country and women's tennis -- with perfect graduation rates from school years from 2006-07 to to 2009-10, according to the NCAA's academic progress rate figures released last week.

But if there might have been a point of concern for Charlotte, it was the men's basketball APR of 923 for the 2009-10 season. Any score below 925 for that combined four-year period can result in the loss of scholarships. And although the basketball program's four-year APR is a safe 950, the 923 for 2009-10 would have raised some eyebrows and been worthy of scrutiny.

Charlotte, however, is requesting that 923 score be adjusted by the NCAA (sorry, no specifics due to privacy rules). If it does -- and I'm told school compliance officials are fairly confident that it will -- the basketball team's new APR for 2009-10 would be 960.

How is it that Lutz still keeps screwing us!!?!

How can someone blame stupid players from Charlotte who can't hang in school on Lutz, plus he is gone

UNCC has a probalem in that they want nothing more than to be competitive, but they are UNCC. So that means they can only get three types of players. A bunch of tall kids from Eastern Europe who can't speak English very well. Kids who love basketball, but aren't good enough to play high D1 basketball, and those are the kids with good grades. And finally, they get their best players who are the kids who academically couldn't cut it at the higher profile programs.

Do transfers or players leaving school early for the NBA affect this grade? If so, then this scoring system is bogus for all schools and not just Charlotte.

Yes, 9:38.....and 7:41, you are an idiot and obviously have only followed Charlotte closely for about 2 years.

Anon 7:41 - The Top programs accept kids who "qualify" in accordance to the NCAA. Charlotte is no different. Look around the ACC and SEC. Same thing goes for football.

And enjoy this gem from the "top program UNC Chapel Hill Tarheels" - ps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JieHmC9DH8&feature=player_embedded#at=411

That's not entirely true. There are some kids whose grades have red flags and that turns off the big schools initially. That leaves schools like UNCC, which isn't a hot destination for top flight players, to take a chance on a kid who could barely cut it in high school and is unlikely to in college. This is the same model Cincinatti used in the 90's

Lutz isnt gone if hes still on the payroll!

How many players has UNCC had that go to the NBA...ever???? I REALLY doubt thats affecting the graduation rate!

You only need to watch for about 2 games to know that the program stinks. It has stunk for years.

As a member of the 49er club for many years, I have had the opportunity to speak to numerous Charlotte athletes.A very small percentage, as in any large group, are true knuckleheads. However, the least intelligent among them are towering geniuses compared to some of the people who comment upon them here. The vast majority, as is the case at most universities, are blessed with native intellectual ability to complement their athletic skills. There is nothing wrong with the 49er athletic program or 49er student athletes.

When will the board of trustees allow someone lead the biggest D1 invisible athletic program?

7:41 AM. When you can't spell problem..you have no argument. That was your first problem. Also, who are these "bunch of tall kids from Eastern Europe?"
