49ers hoops teams in Uptown Tipoff

49ers news and notes

-- The 49ers men's and women's basketball teams will be uptown on Tuesday from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. for their preseason Uptown Tipoff. The teams, along with coaches Alan Major and Cara Consuegra, will be at the corner of Trade and Tryon streets, along with 49ers cheerleaders, the Gold Dusters dance team, the band and, of course, Norm the Niner. Several prizes and giveaways will be available.

-- Charlotte's men's soccer team stayed in the Soccer America rankings despite its 3-1 loss last week at Maryland. The 49ers dropped from 14th to 16th. They play their Atlantic 10 opener Saturday at UMass.

-- The 49ers golf team finished third in this weekend's Myers Invitational at Duke's Duke Golf Club. The Blue Devils won the event, followed by Baylor and Charlotte. The 49ers, who led the tournament entering Sunday's final round, were led by Raoul Menard, who finished tied for fourth individually with an even-par 216.

Good to see niner teams in the community. Seems like presence increases every year downtown. Happy for my alma mater getting football too!!

Alan Major getting it done on recruiting trail. Excited to see some of the new guys. Last year had nobody to sub.

Looking forward to seeing my dear pal Timothy Collie out there. Bought a new pant suit just for you. :*

Wow Tim...surely you have kids to care for or something. You will regret spending most of your adult life hating on everything about Charlotte while simultaneously telling everyone you don't care!

Anonymous said...

yeah tim has reduced his issues to hair style and clothing choices..really proves he has nothing of substance to complain about.

Anonymous said...

Is a blog the only way the Niners will be covered this year? David, you're writeups on the Niners deserve to be in print, the same way it would be if you wrote for Chapel Hill.

Anonymous said...

yep, he's getting in done on the recruiting trail...inking kids not in the top 150. yay mediocrity

The Real Tim Collie said...

Nothing of substance? How about Judy Rose is in decade 3 of her career here, and most of the community doesn't know if we are NAIA or D2, or D1.... nor what conference we are in. There is no TV games either for hoops. She is an epic failure, the problem is there aren't enough fans to run her off. She has more job security, the more obscure the program is, brilliant on her part.

The Real Tim Collie said...

the truly sad thing is, big time programs have this AD argument on a frequent basis. Right now Ole Miss is total chaos with people wanting the AD gone. Charlotte is so small, that there aren't enough fans to even generate buzz or move the needle, and the sheer lack of interest is why Judy keeps a job. There are maybe 1500 paying households to the 49er product if you account for season tix of hoops and football. As the school grows in stature and size, the athletic program slips backwards if you analyze the number$$$

Anonymous said...

uncc isn't even a joke because nobody cares about this pathetic program. irrelevant mediocrity.

Anonymous said...

Ah tim. You are the guy that talks game and never backs it up. #uninvested but always with a reason to complain. Maybe if you stepped up and invested there could be more TV games. Producers of games don't take pledges.

The Real Tim Collie said...

being anon on the net is pretty lame, but anon 936, you could take the 1m bucks we owe Lutz and bout 20 tv games and never fired him. TV = legit recruits. Thats investing.

Oh metro your such a loooser! Everybody knows that Charlottes problems are cuz of the Observer!! Why dont you stop complaining and start supporting the program!!!! The 9ers are going back to the NCAAs and soon have a Big East bid. Its obvious Major has got the ship righted. We are in good hands. We dont want people like you jumping on the bandwagon when we win a national championship! Go to walmart and buy some tarheel gear!!! Why do you even post here anyway????

I'm excited about NC-Charlotte. I think they have legit shot at making the Atlantic Sun tourney this year. Mark it down! Go Miners!

You guys have fallen pretty hard over the past few years since joining the A10. Hopefully, things will start turning around for you with this football thing. Right now, there is not much separating you from the High Points, UNCG's and UNC-Wilmington's of the world. Look what football has done for App and ECU...this will one day put you on the same level, hopefully. Good luck Niners!

I went to the Gardner Webb game last year. UNCC lost, but my kids had a pretty good time anyway. Not the highest quality of hoops, but cheap entertainment for the kids! I think everyone should go see a Niner, Queens, Davidson or JCSU and support the smaller local schools.

Anon at 10:48. That is funny. I LMAO. Seriously.
Thanks. I needed that.

Oops. Above meant to comment on Anon at 10:58.

GAME SET MATCH, Judy's legacy

zing...its been a long time since the Niners were = to Memphis, Cincy, UL, Marquette

Nobody can stand up and honestly say UNCC is big time in any sport. They've had some decent runs in soccer, baseball, and golf vs very weak competion. Seems like their goal is to be the good sister to Chapel Hill's agenda in town. You can't say Mrs Rose has been aggressive whatsoever in creating fans. Its definitely a sleeping giant. Just my .02

So, what you're saying, REAL TIME COLLIE - BASEBALL SUPERSTAR, is that if you analyzed a matrix of her deliverables, Judy would be seen as an obvious disappointment?

Gillaume Fontaine de la Tour D'Haute Rive said...

Didn't even know we had college basketball in the city. I had heard of Davidson before, but only because of the ad's. Decided to go check this out at lunch after seeing this article as I am a huge CBB fan.

The coach (balding black guy I think) was pretty nice and seemed genuinely excited. Not much enthusiasm from anyone else though. Cheerleaders looked lame, but classy. Would prefer the TopCats instead (hint hint).

I'll go check out a game maybe. Heard the 49ers are playing Miami this year, might be worth it. Anyone who knows this college know if they are any good?

Some of you posters lame attempts at humor are really bad and sad. Get a life losers!

Anonymous said...

Jimmy Perser.....ru serious.....Final Fours in recent years in Soccer and Golf....I know its not fball or basketball, but it is completely inaccurate to say those sports have had success against "weak" competition when they both made Final Fours. Golf finished #3 and #8 in consecutive seasons.....how is that against weak competition?

11:41.....real funny......

Anonymous said...

what's really pathetic is that you losers actually refer to each other and yourselves as your message board name. LOSERS.

Anonymous said...

I'm Anon 11:41 and geez dude. I was trying to give NC-Charlotte and other local colleges props by encouraging folks in Charlotte to go see their games (we went) and you gotta bash me for trying to be funny? What a jerk. I hope the rest of the NC-Charlotte fans are NOT like YOU! Sad.

I understood the poster's point that the local community should support the local teams. However, he is sadly in the minority. According to many, if you aren't competing yearly for a national championship, you "suck". Glad to see someone still has values beyond winning at all costs. You are always welcome at Halton.

I wish people would stop pretending to be me. I don't know that guy is on twitter and in these comments, but I am a huge Judy fan. I hate my name being drug through the mud like that. I'm actually a sane and rational person, unlike some people would believe. While I understand that our athletic department has its weaknesses, I know they are doing a lot with very little. I know I will do my part and up my donation to make big time college athletics a realization (moreso than it already is) at Charlotte. Go Niners! Go Alan Major!

Anonymous said...

Who is "NC-Charlotte" 3:30?....and don't think you're that clever, clearly you threw out the names of those scrub programs/D2 schools as if they are the "same" as UNC Charlotte....nice try.

Anonymous said...

3:30/11:41.....The last poster is right --- nice "smaller school" comment.....brilliant, since UNC Charlotte has ~26,000 students (4th largest in NC and will eventually be the largest). Yeah, you were really being sincere about supporting the Niners.

Anonymous said...

@4:11.
I don't care if you are a 49er fan, you are a complete blockhead. PLEASE remember we are trying to attract people. You don't do that by calling them on not knowing not to say "NC-Charlotte". Let him decide for himself whether we are better or worse than the other locals, whom you refer to just as a Walmart Tar Heel refers to us. If he is not being sincere and is just mocking us, then ignore him.

I am going to mail in my check that I promised eons ago! I think I can still find it but I have promised to send it so many times, I may have lost track of it !

pretty funny fact: 36 comments, not one poster stated facts defending Judy Rose's continued employment...anyone?

Melvin Watkins said...

the only game Judy Rose fans have is bash dissenters

Marshall said...

Yeah Hank. Story is on basketball not Judy. Try and stay on topic.

Ernie Banks said...

Much like NCAA affiliation, Community also doesn't know how far you made it in your baseball career. A, AA, AAA??

The REAL Real Time Collie said...

Judy Rose has improved our facilities tenfold since she came on board. The 49er Club has actually grown in numbers since she started. And she has brought our baseball team to the Top 25 level by giving it the tools it needs to succeed on the national level.

Oh, am I forgetting something? Oh, of course! She's the AD that's bringing us football!

Lots to defend here, plus those pant suits are fantastic!

Anonymous said...

4:26....you are clueless.....anybody equating Charlotte with those other schools is trolling.....get a clue.

Anonymous said...

I went to UNCC in the 80's, lived in Moore Dorm, Phase II and III, was a Pi Kapp, etc. Just in case someone wants to challenge me as being authentic. Lived through Wissel and then the breath of fresh air in Mullins. And I gotta be honest, with the rudeness of some of the younger fans I've seen on here, no wonder we can't get people to support us here in our own city. You people make us look like a bunch of gung ho A holes. Grow up and learn to be respectful!

Anonymous said...

anon 7:42. I can say that my local high school is good entertainment and I can take my kids there. I can say the same about Charlotte athletics. That does not mean I am equating the two. Get it, now? Let me add that only the poster knows if he was trolling or not. With the state of local media, people can be forgiven for their ignorance.

Anon 9:03.

I agree with you 100%. I wish Niner fans would spend less time arguing on these boards and more time rooting for their team. There is a handful of haters that come on this board and everyone gets so bent out of shape when they make comments degrading the school. Here's a solution - just IGNORE them!! They will go away real quick, I promise.

ok 1:13......I think we should start by ignoring your stupid/stereotypical comments......
