HOOVER, Ala. -- Isaac Cowles hit the deciding penalty kick after goalkeeper Gavin Dawson made a key save, as the 49ers advanced past Creigton on penalty kicks and into Sunday's national men's soccer championship at Regions Park.
The 49ers (16-4-4) will play the winner of the North Carolina-UCLA on Sunday at 4 p.m. for the championship.
Charlotte and second-seed Creighton (21-2-1) played to a scoreless draw after 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtimes.
The 49ers, who made it to the College Cup by getting past Connecticut in penalty kicks in the quarterfinals, made all four of their penalties against the Bluejays. Creighton made just one, and when Dawson saved one by Kris Clark and Ethan Finlay sent one high, it was left for Cowles, Charlotte's senior co-captain to make his to clinch it.

Does anyone know of charter buses going for the big game? I'm not a student at UNCC but want to go to the game.
SoccerFan, the school is sending buses down, but they're probably just for students. You can call the athletic department at 704-687-4949 though to find out for sure.
Wow people, glad to see this quickly turn into a spitting match as expected.
Most Charlotte fans/alumni respect Chapel Hill and realize that they have the more prestigious history, athletically and academically.
Most Chapel Hill alumni respect that Charlotte is a young research university which provides a quality education, and that their athletics programs have achieved a good amount of success compared to their operation budgets. Okay, most Chapel Hill fans probably don't think of Charlotte athletics at all, but when they do most aren't disrespectful.
Yet, amazingly, only the loud, ignorant groups from both fanbases end up on here shouting at each other. It's perfectly fine for Charlotte fans to hate Chapel Hill athletics, a lot of people hate Chapel Hill athletics, but you certainly still have to respect them.
