The Atlantic 10's baseball coaches have voted the 49ers to win another the league championship in a preseason poll announced today.
Charlotte, which begins its season Feb. 17 against St. Peter's, has won four of the conference's last five regular-season championships (including last season) and three of the league's last five tournaments (including '11). Practice for coach Loren Hibbs' team begins Friday.
The 49ers (43-16 last season) have several key players back, including pitcher Andrew Smith, a preseason second-team All-American.
The Atlantic 10 preseason vote:

2. Rhode Island (31-22/16-8) - 140 points
3. Dayton (32-27/15-9) - 129 points
4. Xavier (30-27/14-10) - 124 points
5. Richmond (29-27/13-11) - 123 points

7. Fordham (31-23/12-11) - 80 points

NINERS excel in baseball, golf, soccer and track. Wish we still did in basketball.
The Atlantic 10 is not a good league. Realistically, UNC-Charlotte finishes 3rd or 4th in the Big South and 5th or 6th in the SoCon.
Worst baseball conference in America hands down. They are middle of the pack at best in any other conference.
Every other school in the conference is in the north east where its 40 degrees outside in the middle spring. UNCc should be the best in all the outdoor sports. But for some reason they always crap out in the conference tournaments.

Preseason polls are garbage! Its obvious they just look at last years rankings! This guy knows nothing about our new recruits! Do some research!! I think we will finish top three in the league.

I agree the A-10 is a terrible baseball conference. We did beat Carolina last year for all the Tar Heel fans that follow the Gold Mine, beat NC State twice in the regional two years ago, beat Arkansas last year; there are a number of quality opponents outside the A-10 that we can and do stack up against come post season. I was not a believer for a long time but give credit. They are doing a great job recruiting and winning with local talent. So Hi Haters…….

The sooner we get out of the A-10 the better!! I'd say we were middle of the pack in a very good baseball conference in C-USA including an at-large NCAA berth over that time. We would be top 3 without a doubt in the Big South or SoCon every year. I would love to be able to recruit as a BS or SoCon school as opposed to the A-10 in baseball.
The SoCon and Big South are better than the A10 in baseball yes, but Charlotte would be at or near the top of those leagues every year. Those leagues just have better teams in the middle and the bottom. Only one program in those 2 leagues is routinely better (and only slightly) than Charlotte and thats Coastal Carolina.
The last poster is right. Who else from those leagues is better? Elon? No. James Madison? No.Good teams yes, better than Charlotte? Nope!
Ha, A-10 would crush SoCon and Big South schools, those leagues are a joke and never win anything. I did not go to UNCC, but they have a solid baseball team the competes at the highest level. UNCC needs to step up its hoop, you don't deserve to be in a differnt league if you can't win in hoop in the A-10.
