49ers could hit ACC double

For the first time in school history, the Charlotte 49ers could play two "home" games against ACC schools next basketball season.

Charlotte is already scheduled to play Wake Forest in a game at Charlotte Bobcats Arena next season. But 49ers officials are busily trying to finish off the details of a second home game against another ACC opponent, which if completed would also be played at Bobcats Arena.

Sources involved in the arrangements asked that I not identify the school yet. However, I will offer a hint: The school has won a Division I NCAA championship.

Including a home game already agreed to with Southern Illinois and Charlotte's guaranteed Atlantic 10 home games with George Washington, Xavier, Dayton and Rhode Island, the 49ers could have one of its most enticing home schedules next season.

When I can, I will divulge the ACC school in question. Until then, do your own detective work.

Thanks for the info. Hope it materializes. Given the number of times I've been disappointed by UNCC, I'm not counting my hopes up.

Yet.

I will guess that the team in question once had a well known Head Coach named Charles, who born on Christmas Day.

So does this mean we are performing so porrly that they will play us now or are they finally coming to terms with respecting the program and playing us? Either way it's exciing. I'll be interested to see how season tickets are handled for games downtown. Too bad they won't give us a true home court advantage and play us in Halton.

Hmm... rumors floating around the AD suggest a game against Boston College, Maryland or NC State...

As a 32 year 49er fan, a game at "Bobcat's Arena" is NOT a "home" game, it's a sellout.

Why is it that the ACC teams won't play in Halton Arena?

Being a student at UNCC, I think a "home" game at Bobcats Arena is a horrible idea. They wonder why we never come to games. There are three reasons, one, we have no real rivalry team to hate, we stopped playing Cinci and Louisville, two, our strength of schedule is lacking, and three, when they do decide to bring in a big name school, they move the game off campus and screw the students over causing us to have drive to it. If you have the game at Bobcats Arena, you are going to get more fans from the opposing school which defeats the purpose of a home game.

This is an that would not otherwise exist due to the ACC tournament being played in Charlotte next year.

No one will stab you if you take the bus from campus to downtown. Promise.

I'm an UNCC alum and follow 49er athletics avidly. Let's just be thankful the ACC is agreeing to play us finally. If this was the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament and we were playing Wake at the arena, would we not pack the place out? For so long, I've been sick of the lack of school spirit. If you don't want more opposing fans, get your student ticket and get your rear downtown! I'll give you a ride myself! Go niners! Oh, and I think the other team is Maryland given that Coach Moxley just came back.
