The 49ers' men's soccer schedule released today, and it's brutally challenging.
Charlotte faces five NCAA tournament teams from 2010, including games at national and ACC powers Virginia (Sept. 16), Maryland (Sept. 27). The 49ers also play at South Carolina on Sept. 6 and are host to UNC Greensboro on Sept. 11. Charlotte, which returns 10 starters from last season's Atlantic 10 regular-season championship team, will face league tournament winner Xavier Oct. 28 at Transamerica Field. Charlotte also plays at Clemson on Sept. 20.
The 49ers open the season Aug. 27 at Coastal Carolina. The home opener is Sept. 4 against UNC Wilmington. Charlotte opens A-10 play Oct. 7 at Massachusetts. The league tournament is Nov. 10-13 at Saint Louis.
Charlotte's preseason exhibitions are at Winthrop on Aug. 17, and home against North Carolina on Aug. 21.
"These are some of the most prestigious programs in the country," Charlotte coach Jeremy Gunn said in a statement. "Our goal here is to be one of the best programs in the nation and we challenge our players by setting up the most competitive schedule as possible."

To be the best you have to beat the best, Go Niners!
Havent you learned anything from the baseball and basketball teams??? Schedule cupcakes, pray to squeek in the tourny, and lose big in the first round!!!
Well, the 49ers usually schedule any strong team that will schedule THEM, since they don't have the luxury of playing in a BIg 6 conference. Perhaps playing well against this schedule will get an at large bid in case of a fluke loss in the A10 tournament. There is one cupcake in the preseason and it isn't Winthrop.
Gotta root for the niners!
