Temple snaps 49ers' nine-game winning streak

Behind 21 points from Shenita Landry, the Temple Owls came from behind to beat Charlotte 77-73 Wednesday night at Halton Arena, snapping the 49ers' nine-game winning streak.

Charlotte (18-7, 9-2) played without starting point guard Traci Ray, who was in Texas to attend the funeral for her grandfather. The 49ers kept the defensive pressure on the Owls, however, forcing them into 32 turnovers in the game.

Trailing by four at halftime, Temple started the second half on a 9-0 run and eventually went up 13, leading 55-42 with 12 minutes, 35 seconds left in the game. Charlotte erupted on a 25-8 run to lead 67-63 with 4:28 left. The Owls (17-8, 8-3) closed the game on a 14-6 run.

Charlotte returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday at Saint Joseph's.

Why does the local team always get stuck with blogs while the other teams get major stories in print?

Since it's doubtful the Niner/Xavier game will receive any pre-game coverage in Charlotte, Niner fans can read articles at cincinnati.com (Cincinnati paper) or charlotte49ers.com (school website).
