West Meck guard commits to 49ers

Terrence Williams, a 6-foot-4 guard from West Mecklenburg High, has verbally committed to the 49ers' men's basketball team, according to his coach Donald Kirby.

Williams averaged 25 points and 12 rebounds as a junior last season. Kirby said he chose Charlotte over Tulane, East Carolina, College of Charleston and Northeastern. Kirby also said Clemson showed some late interest in Williams.

Williams is new 49ers coach Alan Major's second freshman recruit for the 2011 season, following big man Mike Thorne of Fayetteville.

The 49ers are also in the running for point guard Elijah Carter of Brewster (N.H.) Academy, who made his official visit last weekend, and small forward E. Victor Nickerson of Norcross, Ga.

Great news! Good to have T Will as a Niner. Kids staying home is what this program and city needs.

Welcome to Charlotte? Way to read the article, dummy. He's from Charlotte. Welcome to literacy. Looking forward to seeing more idiotic comments from you!

"Welcome to Charlotte" could mean welcome to the university. Looking forward to more pointless criticism from you! Speaking of pointless criticism, last time I checked the city of Charlotte had plenty of high school talent. Having some of it stay here wouldn't be the worst that could happen.

This is a nice land. Hope Charlotte continues this recruiting and builds a solid class for 2011. And again welcome to the Charlotte Williams (in case anyone is as dumb as 4:32 when I mean by Charlotte I mean by the university who's athletic conference goes by Charlotte).

Fall off? When was the last time Lutz signed two players in the early signing period?

Williams was a 3 star player, which is pretty much on par with what Lutz would typically bring in. The only difference is we'll have this kid for 4 years. Most Lutz players were transfers or JUCOs.

This story should make it to print. LOCAL high school star will play for the LOCAL University and should be in the LOCAL paper.

Good pick up!

I'm waiting for the season to start so we can watch Niner fans implode. They'll start to turn on one another and call each other UNC fans because quite frankly, it's all they talk about. That and how much attention they deserve from the Observer.

After all that talk is done, they'll start talking about their Final Four year and Conf USA days and how they beat NC State in Raleigh.

lol

5:16,

"And again welcome to the Charlotte Williams (in case anyone is as dumb as 4:32 when I mean by Charlotte I mean by the university who's athletic conference goes by Charlotte)."

Huh? Please read before you hit send. The athletic conference is the Atlantic 10. Dummy.

Welcome to the Charlotte Williams!

This kid's a beast. He would've been/should've been a bigger recruit, but was a little overshadowed by the bigger conferences in town. Nevertheless, this is the kind of kid Major can build a program with.

Let's hope he is to Alan Major what Byron Dinkins (East Meck) was to Coach Mullins, the first Charlotte kid to his first recruiting class. Now, wouldn't that be something?

To 4:32, he decided to play for the "Charlotte" 49ers basketball team. Perhaps you didn't know that's the name of the team Williams just verbaled to? Pretty foolish to say "welcome to literacy" when you missed this, don't you think?

That aside, I'm glad Williams made the right decision to play as a Niner.

NinerNation just creamed their pants after seeing it in the Observer. They're going to praise them, then going to diss them tomorrow.

Then they'll go back to hating UNC which has no bearing on whatever topic they're on, it just somehow makes its way into a conversation.
