Finding new ways to lose

Can't blame the turnovers this time. No, this loss to La Salle -- 91-86 in double overtime -- was more confounding than others because free-throw shooting has been one thing the Charlotte 49ers have been consistently good at all season.

They led the Atlantic 10 with a 74.0 percent mark entering the game. It actually got better by halftime -- ticking up to 74.6  -- because Charlotte was 10 for 10 from the line by that time. The 49ers actually finished the game making 31 of 46, a 67.4 percent mark.

But it's not how many you make, it's when you make them. And ironically, the 49ers' season average won't dip much.

Derrio Green (an 84.5 percent free throw shooter) was seven of 12 for the game, but four of eight down the stretch. Deuce Briscoe (82.1) was two of five, including missing the front end of a one-and-one late in regulation with the 49ers up six. K.J. Sherrill -- who otherwise had a great game with a career high in points (24) and rebounds (13) was 14-of-18 from the line, but missed two that would have given Charlotte a lead in the second OT.

Javarris Barnett, who disappeared after scoring 16 points in the first half (he finished with 19) said the 49ers play a game at every game-day practice in which each player has to hit a free throw for his team or he's disqualified. "You've got to make that one free throw or you're out," said Barnett.

"If you miss, you're letting your team down."

The refs were absolutely horrible! We need to get out of this conference! We diserve better. Thats why im not giving any more money until we are in the Big East.

Anon 9:36, you're right, the ref's were horrible, but they didn't cost us the game. FT shooting by our guards did.

3rd foul on Bras was phantom, but the 4th on Bras 5 seconds later was absolutely stupid and changed the game. Left with 1 (not so big) big for the next 12 minutes, it killed the Niners.

As far as your unwillingness to give to the Charlotte 49ers Athletic Foundation, that is just your excuse for being a cheap, bandwagon POS. You're probably a closet HOLE fan too. Chicken or egg dumb @ss?

Charlotte doesn't belong in the Atlantic 10 because they can't compete in the Atlantic 10. When is this genius AD going to figure this out?

I didn't see the game, but good teams overcome bad refs. We are not a good team. We will become a better team in time. I think Charlotte is very capable of winning in the Atlantic 10. They have already proven that. They beat very good teams in the past and will beat very good teams in the future. Hats off to K.J. and Javaris. These guys are flashing. The next step is to find consistency.

Ladies & gentlemen of the jury: The question is ‘how did we end up in this predicament?” “How did we end up scraping the bottom of the barrel in the mighty A-10?” “How did we end up with an inexperienced coach with no knowledge of his new surroundings?” “How did we fall soooooo far after a 19 win season and four starters back in a matter of days?”

Ladies and gentlemen: I submit to you that the evidence will show the answer to be’ Judas Rose’! With her callus administrative approach no experienced coach (though they were available) was willing to allow his career to be destroyed by her. And no young and promising up and coming coach was willing to allow his career to be derailed by her! Yes, ladies and gentlemen of the jury the death of this program is the ego of Judas Rose!

Not bad refs! Not bad ball control! Not bad free throw shooting! But narcissistic leadersip from the AD

Lets not forget to give kudos out the coach Major, who for about the tenth time this season has had a time out to set up one play to tie or wins a game and has called some dribble out all the remaining time on the clock while everyone stands like statues and we throw up some kind of crazy off balance shot !

8:03....YOU are an idiot. We used to kick the a$$es of several current Big East members on a regular basis. The A10 has killed our recruiting, which led to the worst 5-6 year stretch for this program in 25+ years. This then prompted the firing of the best coach we've ever had and we continue to suffer because of it, but we will get it turned around.

Wow! There is a lot of hostility here. You guys that bash the niners make me laugh. All teams have up and down years. Even Bobby Knight had down years. You guys keep talking it up and in a couple seasons you will hope that your team doesn't play us. Just like NCSU and UNC who won't schedule us or took us off of their yearly schedule.

May I remind all the hateful trolls who are blaming everything from the flood of Noah's day to the sinking of the Titanic that we are playing with 9 players. Everyone else has 15 and use 10 regularly. Major knows what a winning program looks like from his years assisting Ohio State. Give him a couple years to recruit a full team. It's neither his nor Judy Rose's fault that Spears turned into an insubordinate crybaby or that 2 players would be academically ineligible.

This is a lost season. But I'm willing to wait for the coach to recruit players and completely implement his system before calling for his head. And in case you haven't noticed, the baseball coach the AD brought in has a real shot at the college World Series this year. She also hired our soccer coaches and the last golf coach - all sports where we have made NCAA tournaments.

I know what a winning team/program looks like I see them all the time (Duke/Pitt/UCONN). See I told you I know what they look like. That doesn't mean coach Major or I know anything about coaching.

Look at the job the new Clemson basketball coach is doing. It was suppose to be a down year with a new coach and players graduating. He's star player at the beginning of the season is no longer on the team.

Upon the new coaches arrival did the Clemson program take a step back? NOOOOOO! Why because he was a proven winner. And where are they at in the standings? In the top half of the ACC!

As soon as Judy's wings were broken, everyone found out she really rides a broom!
