Previewing 49ers-Toledo

Here's a brief preview of Wednesday's Charlotte-Toledo WNIT semifinal (8 p.m., Savage Arena, Toledo, Ohio, CBS College Sports Network):

Like the 49ers (27-9), the Rockets (27-8) aren’t a star-driven team. Toledo’s best player is guard Naama Shafir, a first-team all-Mid-American Conference selection who averages 14.6 points and 5.0 assists. On the inside, forward Melissa Goodall averages 13.0 points and 7.0 rebounds.

The 49ers -- who already have set a school record for victories -- have been led by senior guard Shannon McCallum, who is averaging 23.3 points in her last three games.

The 49ers-Rockets winner will face the winner of Wednesday's other semifinal between Southern California and Illinois State on Saturday. That game will be on one of the team's homecourts, but not Halton Arena, which is booked with another event.

Mr. Scott. I know the MBB season is over for 49ers, but I we would like to know what is going on in the program and what's coach Major's new plans and recruitments. Thanks for covering all the 49ers.

Mr Scott, please tell us tonight's Niner baseball win over unc chapel hill's 10th ranked team WILL BE MENTIONED THIS TIME in the paper. The Observer's normal behavior is to make a big deal when chapel hill wins and keep it hushed when the Niners win.

Toledo's Naama Shafir was a First-Team Mid-American Conference selection this season. Melissa Goodall was a Third-Team All-MAC selection.

Can you guys give it a rest? Just enjoy the coverage...

This might be a stupid question, but why would the U book another event in Halton arena right in the middle of BB post season?? A CMS science fair? Really? WTF. Does the Admin just plan on us not making the post season and book other events instead? Just a thought

It would have been interesting to have watched a first ever matchup between the women and mens 49er teams.
The winner would be obvious. Maybe next year. Gender should have no bearing on a matchup.

The university does some things wrong in its non-promotion of athletics. Booking Halton for CMS science fair is not one of those things. This booking was done some time ago. Predicting that our team would miss the NCAA tournament and make a deep run in the WNIT would have taken a very accurate crystal ball. UVA's arena would also not have been available to them had they won. Stuff happens.
