Burlington RB signs with 49ers

Alan Barnwell, a running back from Burlington Cummings High, became the 49ers' 25th football signee today. Barnwell, 5-9, 165 pounds, was the Mid-State 2A player of the year, rushing for about 1,700 yards and 25 TDs as a senior.

This guy will run all over CPCC and Gaston College!

Anonymous said...

He'll be able to run all over FCS Division I football programs, too.

Welcome aboard!

I want to see an Independence High vs. UNCc game.

Glad to see him sign after being the first player to give Charlotte a verbal.

He is the icing on the cake to our recruiting class. Lambert and staff have started off on the right foot.

Welcome to Charlotte 49er football!

Charlotte 49er football is a joke!

Anonymous said...

The only joke is the idiot who characterizes the program as a joke before we have played our first game - probably a fan of a "bigtime" school, aka "NFL player mill" whose athletes spend jusst as much time on the police blotter as on Sportscenter! Kudos to Coach Lambert and staff for going after kids who excel athletically AND academically. That academic success will translate into discipline both on and off the field - important since there are no upper classmen on this team and the team doesn't need to provide fuel for the academic "elites" who said that the program would be a detriment to academics...

Funny how UNCc has a D1 basketball program and no one shows up for the games but a glorified high school football team is going to pack them in.

@3:21

You are completely wrong. In fact you are an worthless idiot. Don't come on this board if you don't have anything intelligent to say.

Anonymous said...

At least the UNCc alumni won't have to travel very far for the games.

Sorensen wrote a great article about Charlotte 49er football and signing day. Minus the anger-filled teenager troll that spends her time bashing a school, with which she has no affiliation, on every CO article, I'm glad to see so many supporters who made the dream of Charlotte 49er football come to life. I honestly don't care if we have a losing season since it takes a while for any program to gel. With so many naysayers saying it would never happen, it shows that Charlotte 49er football has the backing of its alumni, students, and fans alike.

Charlotte 49er football. I love saying it!

Okay troll, your turn sweetheart.

Yeah they don't show up for bball....Sure! Even in Charlotte's worst 5-year stretch of bball since the early 80s, attendance is still in the top 25% of all D1 mens bball attendance. Get a clue!

It's 2012. Wake up.

3:50
I graduated from UNCC. Aside from the 30 students that camp out for seats they could get night of, the attendance is abysmal.

Nobody cares...other than you 30 plus select alums living in the late 90s-early 00s.

Anonymous said...

uncc is not a big sports program. get over yourselves.

I doubt you are a UNC Charlotte grad and I know you don't have any idea what attendance is like (or perhaps you are just a liar). Attendance at most athletic events in the city of Charlotte is not great. Forty niner games are no exception, but to describe attendance as "abysmal" is not accurate. Since YOU are not there, how would you know?

The anonymous troll is just angry that he bombed out of UNCC and so he blames them for being a loser. Must be hard to look for a job when your so busy trashing us on this board.

Why do they allow the sick jobless bi-waterboy who goes both ways sponging off mommy and daddy in his late 20s to vandalize the internet day and night? In school he was a dumb D student withdrawn nerdy shy scared of his own shadow type. Girls laughed at him. Figures he'd turn out so bad. McDonalds and Wendys are hiring to clean restrooms, today.

Anonymous said...

8:40....maybe YOU need to wake up! What part of EVEN NOW (ie; 2012) we rank top 25% in attendance do you not understand?.......geez, what a freakin' idiot!

Anonymous said...

why is it that if you degrade uncc and note it's lack of accomplishments in revenue (non-olympic) sports, you are automatically unemployed and/or uneducated?

Anonymous said...

It isn't having a negative opinion about UNC Charlotte that makes you a worthless pile of garbage. Taking the time to post that opinion on a blogsite does. Do something worthwhile and positive today and leave you misplace anger behind tomorrow.

^ "misplaced"

Very exciting. Got my FSLs.

Similar to the jealous, hate-rhetoric used when speaking of Chapel Hill? ;-)

Anonymous said...

And then there was silence. Good night UNCc.

I'll just start taking it as a compliment when people intentionally seek out articles and blogs on the 49ers just to tell us how unimportant and worthless we are. It's obvious that's not the case, or else we wouldn't be seeing those comments at all.

The fact is they're just afraid that we could actually be good, draw fans in, and be a benefit to this city, which just sounds terrible, huh?

So thanks guys for being the very definition of a contradiction and at the same time boosting my spirits! Go Niners!

@1:15
Of course. Provided that rhetoric is in a blog about Chapel Hill athletics. Perhaps u would like to "take your business" there? We won't miss u.

Anonymous said...

Pretty sad.

A high school kid gets a nice article written about him and all his classmates, friends, aunts, uncles, mom, and dad have to read a Chapel Hill grad make an idiot out of himself.

Anonymous troll - are you that Michael Procton guy?

Charlotte 49ers football

God, I love saying that. Back in the late '80s when I arrived, we already had the T-shirts - "UNC Charlotte Football: Undefeated, Untied, Never Been Scored On." Now, 25 years later, we will finally have some football (and as crummy a program as Campbell is, we might still be able to wear those T-shirts for game 2). I have a feeling we'll be like Old Dominion, making the FCS playoffs in year 3, year 4 at the latest. Can't wait for 8/31/13.

I have a question for all you folks that regularly come to this blog and call people and schools nasty names: Why do you seek this blog and 49er fans and alumni? Obviously you have schools you like better than us; why don't you go to their blogs and concentrate on your favorite school? There is nothing wrong with people who went to UNC Charlotte openly rooting for its sports teams and getting excited about the birth of a new sport. If you want to debate, fine. Let's do it. But let's be adults about it and leave out the name-calling and vulgarity.

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Here's the irony, you pathetic trolls: you say "no one cares" but, alas, HERE you are spending YOUR time and ATTENTION here. You think your angry, envy-ridden comments bother NINER NATION? I think not. We have a great school, with great athletic programs and NOW WE HAVE FOOTBALL!! Nothing you can do about it. HAHAHHAAHAHAHA! Now, I look forward to your wasting more time here commenting on the next NINER success story. See you then, losers! GO NINERS!!

Anonymous said...

LOL Poor Niners...

Anonymous said...

You guys are REAL mad. I'm laughing at the haters.

Anonymous said...

solid win against fordham! i think you guys are a real threat to make some noise in the tourney! i mean a10 tourney! i mean... fail.

Anonymous said...

Oh, look! Michael Procton, aka the Charlotte-Observer-comments-troll, is back!

Hey, Mike - can you score me a coupon from your pizza flipping job at Universal California Pizza? I want to taste how a fat, bitter, Guilford Tech grad cooks pizza.

Anonymous said...

As a proud niners fan, I may not be happy with BB & Judy at this time and reserve the right to express myself. I've already booked my room for the A10 tournament.

However, this is a football subject and that's a different ballgame. I love it when when the program is attacked. That is just evidence that the school is relevant (and indeed feared). "Fear the gold pick"

Anonymous said...

fear the pick? that's the stupidest fucking thing i have ever heard. uncc fails again.

Anonymous said...

Oh no. The Guilford Tech kid who couldn't get into unc charlotte and works at Universal California Pizza thinks we're stupid.

Anonymous said...

again, why are uncc critics "uneducated" or "poor" or "unqualified for acceptance to of all the public nc schools, uncc"...? i have yet to receive a legitimate and reasonable answer. you guys are like republicans with your unfounded talking points.

Anonymous said...

I saw your Google Plus profile and image, Michael Procton.

I agree with "poor" (you work in a pizza place), I agree with "uneducated" and "unqualified for acceptance" - I wouldn't have accepted you to UNC Charlotte if I worked in admissions.

But you left out "fat".

Anonymous said...

Is this the same pizza guy that "interviewed" for head football coach and said we are going to be in the BCS? Didnt he declare himself a presidential candidate a couple months ago?

Anonymous said...

@9:29
You asked this at 11:46 and it was answered at 11: 54. Go back and read. Perhaps a simple analogy that even you can understand will suffice. This blog is like our living room. Your posts are like turds left behind after defecating in our living room. We do not like turds in our living room. Since you can't understand that you must not be very bright. Again, it is not your opinion that is offensive, but your obsessive and inappropriate need to share that opinion in THIS blog. Go away!
