Sunday news wrap-up

Plenty of news to report this Sunday afternoon:

-- The 49ers men's soccer team was eliminated from the NCAA tournament with a 1-0 loss at No. 3-seed Georgetown. Charlotte finishes at 15-4-3. The Hoyas scored right before halftime to advance to next week's third round.

The game was fairly even: both teams had eight shots, with Georgetown owning the advantage in corner kicks 5-4. Charlotte played a man down for the final 10 minutes when Aaron Weldon was sent off after his second yellow card for a hard tackle.

-- Charlotte freshman football player Prince Mayela was shot in an off-campus incident Saturday night. Mayela's wound was in the hip area and he will be OK. Mayela's former West Mecklenburg High teammate, Tashion Singleton, was also injured in the incident. Singleton, a defensive lineman, plays at Appalachian State now.

-- Sophomore men's basketball player E. Victor Nickerson sprained his ankle in Saturday's victory against Lamar. X-rays were negative. His status for next week's Great Alaska Shootout hasn't yet been determined.

To avoid confusion with the sports name the CO wised up and used UNCC 49ers and UNC-Charlotte 49ers to describe an incident involving a football freshman who was involved in an altercation near the school early Sunday AM.
Had they used "Charlotte" only noone would have known who they were talking about...

Had they used Charlotte 49ers everyone who we care about would have understood. All you thickheads who can't understand the whole Charlotte 49ers athletics as opposed to UNC Charlotte academic institutional name concept are of no consequence.

Again with the name stuff? It is simple as long as the CO refers to UNC Chapel Hill as UNC or Carolina then calling us Charlotte is perfectly fine. If you want to use our academic name, then start using theirs too.

Anyone that can't tell based on content which team is being talked about is either an obvious moron or a troll.

Only someone as dumb as a UNC football player wouldnt know the difference between the Charlotte 49ers, UNCC, and UNC-Cheat.

This blog needs Barney NA Fife to arrest those whose opinions he disagrees with.

I think the soccer team can officialy be declared an under-achieving disappointment. I had a feeling losing our coach was going to hurt. Let's hope the current coach is a super recruiter.

8:05 - Precisely why I'm calling all the state schools UNC now.

So, who is really better this year, UNC-CH or UNC-Raleigh? UNCR has more talent, but UNC-CH has a better coach. Should be interesting.

Program reminder: After the CHARLOTTE 49ERS get done playing in Alaska, there's a game vs UNC-Greenville next Saturday night. Can't wait until we're back in C-USA and beating the crap out of UNC-Greenville twice a year, and every year in football.

GO CHARLOTTE 49ERS!!!!!!!!!!!!
