WCCB to televise Charlotte 49ers home football games

-- The Charlotte 49ers and WCCB have agreed to a three-year deal to televise 49ers home football games, beginning with the 49ers' first game Aug. 31 against Campbell at Richardson Stadium.

The deal was brokered by the 49ers' media rights holder, IMG College.

“We have been working for several months now with WCCB to make these games available to those fans who aren’t able to get out to campus,” Charlotte athletics director Judy Rose said in a statement. “We are thrilled to grow a partnership with (executive VP) Jim Babb and WCCB. Their enthusiasm for our program was apparent from our very first meeting, and we are excited to have them on our team. To be able to televise each of our home games in our very first season speaks to the excitement surrounding our program, and we thank both WCCB-TV and IMG College for their work in making this happen.”

The television partners of Conference USA, which the 49ers will join as a football member in 2015, have first rights to Charlotte's home games, even in 2013 and '14. Should the CUSA partners select any Charlotte games in 2014, WCCB would have first rights to any remaining games.

-- Former 49ers basketball player E. Victor Nickerson, who left the program after last season, is transferring to Valparaiso. Nickerson will have two years of eligibility left, but will sit out next season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Oh yeah? Well to bad UNCC still sucks, and you won't when any games ever! And also, you need to quit beeting your chests over getting on TV, because your just embarrassing yourselves. I mean you haven't even played a game yet! And also, no won even cares about you, so huh!

Go App!
(except during basketball season, and then Go Heels!)

"won't when" "beeting your chests" "no won"

Is that an example of an App State education?

No doubt IMG was a big time move for school!

Will these games be available via the internet?

Anon 6:48, have you ever posted on NNN using the name "Ace"?

Anonymous said...

This announcement would be front page headlines if UNC had announced WCCB was broadcasting all of their games.

Anon 6:48.

If you were a true App fan then you would never make the statement you just did about supporting the Heels.

If you are an App alum then you are breaking every rule in the book.

I weep for your future.

Cool - so now the 12 people in Charlotte who are interested in fertyninner football won't have to waste gas in order to see the games.

Cry, trolls, cry! More NINER good news to make you mad, hurt, sad, act immature. The joke's on YOU. GO NINERS! See you at Jerry Richardson Stadium and on WCCB. Trolls?! BAHAHAHA!

Anonymous said...

I find it humorous that all these App fans keep hanging out on the Niner forums displaying their envy. They have a long way to go to catch the Niners in everything but football, and they will be lagging behind in football in 4 more years.

At least graduates of UNCC know which form of "too" to use.

"Well to bad UNCC still sucks".

And then you split loyalties in basketball? What a pathetic App fan you are. Anyone who would go against their alma mater is proof that they are a lame fan.

Go, UNCC!!!!

It would actually be more significant if WCCB was still a FOX affiliate. I assume the cost was right since WCCB will take a drastic hit it the next Arbitron. The FOX 18 News Team was good at what they did and the lead in shows to news were awesome. The Panthers coverage was second to none. Regretfully 49ers game will have to be searched rather than featured. Also no mention of any other affiliates picking up package. Who will do play-by-play? Always love the "detailed" stories by the Observer.

I'm not this Ace guy, but he sounds like a smart fellow. Y'all need to stop acting like being able to spell is a big deal, your just embarrassing yourselves. Plus my spell check says everything I typed is write, so I don't get it. I got a good education at App! And I'm a diehard App football fan, but are basketball team is pretty bad. You're UNCC team would cream us! So that's why I cheer for my Heels, cause their really good! They when national championships just like are football team! But you're football team won't when any games for a long time! And also Judy Rose is to scared to play us! HAHA

This is really awesome news!

And, honestly, as long as cable packages throughout the region want both Fox & CW channels, it doesn't really matter if it's a Fox channel or a CW channel. I imagine WCCB will remain in cable packages long after we're part of the C-USA tv package so what's the big deal? It's good news for both us and WCCB.

So it's now possible to have sellouts, standing room only crowds AND a television audience. Can't beat that!

Awesome! Now I can stay at home in my mom's basement in Huntersville and not have to to drive into campus on Saturday to catch our game (and likely losses) against the powerful Campbell Camels and Presby Blue Hose. Driving into Concord for class three days a week is the total college experience I was always wanting, not to mention the atmosphere in my 8pm geology lab full of 40 year old mom's trying to get a degree again.

Aww. Poor l'il Appie fan is not taking this news well at all.

heeheehee.

God I hate it when people who did not go to Chapel Hill call the basketball team there "my Heels". It's just so damn lame. Support your alma mater or your local team. It's that simple.

Anonymous said...

We go to App for the atmosphere. At least your students stay on campus. When its 20 degrees with 60 mph wind and 2' of snow - its to cold to leave your dorm room.

Anonymous said...

Thanks, anon 654

It's cool that you attend App for the atmosphere. But I've got a feeling Charlotte is going to bring one helluva college atmosphere around, oh, say August 31st!

Welcome to Boone! Home of the Charlotte 49ers!

Why does everyone hate on App? It's a great school! I think you guys are just jealous of us. At App we receive a education similiar to what you see in the movie deliverance. And even though we are not as smart as the chapel hill kids, we still root for their team while visiting a Walmart to buy their shirts, so that's kinda like going there. We are also not nearly as successful as Charlotte graduates, but we will most likely end up living there. As such we will get to share in their success becuse we will need their tax dollars to pay for our need based assistance. Sadly we can not hold a high paying job and as it turns out beating Michigan in Ann Arbor all those years ago is not a job skill...who knew?!? For all of these reasons and more, I am glad I went to App!

^^^ Hahaha this guy, he must have tried to offer himself up to some hillbillies off King St. in Boone, BUT THEY PASSED ON HIM.

Go feed Judy a few more undergrad females.

I'm starting to think App fans in Boone personally petitioned the cable networks/WCCB to broadcast Charlotte home games all across the state so they can keep a closer eye on us.
