Pilkington A-10 co-rookie of the week

Freshman pitcher Tyler Pilkington, after making his first collegiate start, was named the Atlantic 10 Conference's co-rookie of the week. Pilkington, who starred at Weddington High, yielded just one run on three hits with nine strikeouts over six innings of action in the 49ers' 6-5 loss at No. 19 Clemson on Sunday. The Waxhaw native walked one and allowed only four base runners.

The 49ers open their 2009 home season at 4 p.m. Tuesday hosting Oakland (Mich.) at Hayes Stadium. Charlotte will play six straight home games and 17 of its next 19 games at home. The 49ers dropped all three games in their season opening series at Clemson over the weekend.

--Also, senior Yudeshnee Pillay named the A-10 women's tennis co-player of the week. Pillay won her No. 1 singles and doubles matches on Feb. 20, topping her opponent from Western Carolina in straight sets (6-3, 6-0) to remain unbeaten this spring.
