Mooresville's Lester commits to 49ers

Shawn Lester, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Mooresville High, has committed to Charlotte. Lester chose the 49ers over Clemson and South Carolina.

Lester, a senior, averaged 18.5 points, 5 assists and 5 steals for the Blue Devils (19-11), who lost to Western 4A regional qualifier Olympic in the first round of the playoffs.

"I thought that was right for me," Lester said. "It'll help me get my degree and help me be a better player and I hope to help them win."

Lester said the Charlotte staff told him he'd play shooting guard.

"I'm comfortable with the (shooting guard position)," he said. "I'm glad I can get this (college choice) done early and focus on my academics and focus on getting ready for my senior season." -- Langston Wertz Jr.

I'm not sure if landing a player who only had competing offers from the 9th-best team in the ACC and the 7th-best team in the SEC should get us very excited. Hopefully he'll contribute and prove me an idiot. GO NINERS!

Yes, 4:00.....no reason to think a 3-4 star, top 100-150 (depending on which recruting service you use) player is any good.......:(

Great News! Can't wait to see him on the court.

We sure don't want to see him IN court !!

Great.. another undersized shooting guard.... be prepared to move to PG sometime in your career. Its amazing all you need is to put a seasons worth of moves in a 4 min highlight video with a hot rap song and people will drool all over you.

Your coach got a 3-star recruit ranked in the top 150 nationally after a season where y'all went 2-14 in conference play and you aren't satisfied? I'm not a niner fan, but it sure sounds like a step in the right direction.

Congrats to Charlotte and Shawn Lester! Welcome aboard! Niner basketball is looking better every day!

11:22 is right on.

11:22 is an idiot.......6'3" is not really too much undersized (sure 6'5" would be better) and Lester is a strong finisher around the basket. He plays bigger. SOme of you people seem to live to take BS shots at the Niners. Get a life!

@ 12:45 AM

THANK YOU!

Most niner fans are excited to have him on board.

The fact that we beat out an ACC team (even if it wasn't a team the caliber of Duke or Carolina) for a top 150 LOCAL guy after a terrible season is very impressive.

Major and company have proven that they can recruit well. If they have any coaching ability, there is no reason Charlotte cannot return to where it was in the 90's thru the mid 2000's.

Who cares about the ACC?! They don't care about you! You aren't a blip on their screen. Focus on winning the A10 before you attempt to compete with an ACC school on any playing field...recruiting included. Idiots.

Charlotte already competes with and beats "ACC teams" on many playing fields.

Watch the highlight reel for this guy. He's got some serious skills. His vertical reach is insane.

Oh my bad. I forgot about the sports that don't matter.

Charlotte's basketball history stacks up pretty well with about 75% of the D1 teams in the country. Keep talking crap though, it just shows your ignorance of the subject.
