Charlotte 49ers 8th in NCSAA preseason men's poll

The Charlotte 49ers are ranked eighth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's preseason poll.

The 49ers lost in the 2011 College Cup final to North Carolina, which is the preseason No. 1 in the NSCAA poll. The two other teams in the College Cup, UCLA and Creighton, are ranked second and third, respectively.

Charlotte returns eight starters from last season's 16-5-4 team. They begin preseason practice Friday in preparation for their season opener Aug. 25 against Denver at Transamerica Field.

The 49ers have also announced their 2012 recruiting class, which includes two transfers from 2010 national champion Akron:

-- MF Kyle Baccus, Waco, Texas: Helped Midway High to 27-1-1 record last season and district championship. Was All-District and academic All-State.

-- MF Dominic Bonilla, Lawrenceville, Ga., transfer from Akron: Didn’t play for Zips last season and joined 49ers in the spring. High school All-American at Collins High.

-- D Biko Bradnock-Brennan, London: Was captain of Blackpool’s U-18 team and also holds school records in 100, 200 meters and high jump.

-- GK Christian Hansen, New Bern: Had eight shutouts last season and was all-state. Also played in East-West game in Greensboro in July.

-- D Brandon Kardos, Matthews: One of the country’s top defenders at Providence High and Charlotte Soccer Academy.

-- D David Mayer, Wigan, England, transfer from Akron: Started four games for Akron last season.

For someone who has absolutely no connection with the Tar Holes (expect for being an a-hole himself), Bruce is really excited about them. The very definition of a wasted existence.

Anon 3:34pm...why you mad bro? UNC is just far more superior than UNCC. You know it/ESPN knows/Cam knows/Your momma knows/etc. By the way tool, I actually did graduate from there in 98, so cum get some sucka!

"UNC is just far more superior than UNCC."

They are far superior at cheating. Last I checked we didn't create courses just to keep athletes eligible nor did we employ agents to help land recruits.

Kudos UNC Chapel Hill

Bruce graduated? From Carolina in 1998. Ain't buyin' it bro. Any 30 something UNC grad is more intelligent than that moron. Of course, there is the possibility he was an athlete, which would explain a lot. Come git some, Bruce.

More likely Brucie graduated from his mom's womb about 1998

This recruiting class was ranked in the top 30 by Soccer America. I'm very impressed so far. They all look amazing on paper. Hopefully they should fill some gaps after losing seniors Rodriguez, Cowles and James to the MLS last year. I'm excited for this season! Wish I could make it to the first game!

Hey Bruce,

Take a look at your diploma. You went to UNC CH not UNC.

There is no UNC.

By chance, did you study in Swahili?

Stellar way to represent UNC CHapel Hill. I am ashamed to have the UNC in our name and to have our academic and athletics tarnished by the school up the road. The fact that you would rather sell out your academics and your reputation to win a games says all we need to know about you.

Hey Bruce - go take a bath. I'll throw in the plugged-in toaster once you get settled in the tub.

I've never been a soccer fan, so I'm not up to speed on who the top programs are. It appears it's the same teams every year - Creighton, UCLA, UNC-CH. I hope we're stepping up into that class long-term.

I hope we play Stanford some time this year. And I hope that one of our players is chasing a ball near their sideline, takes a swing at it, and misses, accidentally kicking turncoat coach Jeremy Gunn right where it hurts.
