Gardner-Webb added to 49ers' basketball schedule

The Charlotte 49ers have added another home men's basketball 2010-2011 schedule. Charlotte will now host Gardner-Webb at 4 p.m. Nov. 12 at Halton Arena.

In addition, the 49ers have moved their home preseason exhibition game with Queens to Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.

The change gives Charlotte 15 home games, including the exhibition, and a full regular-season slate. UNC Charlotte faculty and staff members will be eligible to pick-up four free tickets to the Gardner-Webb game while single game tickets will be $5 each.

Additionally, fans are encouraged to remain in Halton Arena for the 49ers volleyball senior night match versus Atlantic 10 rival Rhode Island.

Charlotte opens the season on Thursday at 9 p.m. with its annual "Major Madness" celebration. On Saturday, the 49ers will host a Basketball Fan Day. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. with scrimmages by both the men’s and women’s team to start at 3 p.m.

As a 49er faithful, it is embarrassing that we have to start the Alan Major Era with a 4:00 Friday afternoon game in order for the volleyball team to keep their 7:00 match time.

A "Major" college program, beginning with a new coach, new season, and wanting to build a football program doing this... a 4 pm start on a Friday?

Ridiculous.

Just a dumb idea. What good is it to add a game this late and at 4 PM? Whoses going to watch Alan Major's debut as coach at that time?! This is not the way to get started.
