49ers odds and ends:
-- Charlotte was completely shut out (I know that's redundant, but I'm using it for effect) of the Atlantic 10 men's basketball post-season awards list. Even Chris Gaston of last-place Fordham made honorable mention all-conference.
Xavier's Tu Holloway was named player of the year and Musketeers coach Chris Mack coach of the year.
-- Watch for the 49ers to get a Women's NIT bid on Monday night (after the NCAA field is announced).
-- 49ers first baseman Justin Seager is the Atlantic 10's rookie of the week. Seager, who is from Kannapolis, is hitting .400 and has a homer. The 49ers (9-2) play Tennessee Tech today and Wednesday at Hayes Stadium (4 p.m. both games) and weekend series at home against Ball State.
-- I'm told there's nothing to the idea that Charlotte has turned down an offer to join the Colonial Athletic Association as a full member. That doesn't mean there haven't been discussions (there have) or that such an offer might not be forthcoming (it could). But Charlotte is only interested in finding a temporary spot for its football program and wants to keep the rest of its sports in the Atlantic 10. Of the three leagues Charlotte has been talking to, it doesn't appear the CAA or the Southern Conference would be interested in such an arrangement. The Big South might be, however (Stony Brook is a football-only, temporary member now).
But things are in flux in the CAA, with UMass and Rhode Island (football-only members) leaving and Villanova (another football-only school) considering a move to the Big East. When the dust settles, maybe the CAA would consider Charlotte as a football-only member.

Hopefully we are not really worrying about what FCS conference we want to deal with.
Stay the course that Mac Everett's group recommended, FBS as soon as possible.
The fact that nobody made the A-10 postseason teams is pretty embarrassing but no player left on the current roster was worthy. Whether you like Shamari or not, he more than likely would have made at least third team. Phil Jones had a chance at the defensive team. Lets just forget about this season.
you are right. that is charlotte and not uncc. losers.
what happened to that great ohio state assist coach rose hired who was heralded so highly by the media?
Anon 2:38 - I'll tell you what happened to him. His best player decided that he would rather bitch and moan and try to undermine the new coach's authority and got himself (justifiably) kicked off the team. Two other rotation players missed at least half the season with injuries. Two other rotation players were lost to academic issues. You take a team that was marginally tournament-worthy to start and decimate it like that, and God himself couldn't coach them to a winning record. It's going to take 2 more recruiting classes before he even has a full 15-man roster. Give him time to assemble a complete team before you rip him.
As for the conference thing, I don't see why we wouldn't consider a full move to the CAA. The A-10 isn't that good. Xavier and Temple are the only teams that make the NCAA tournament regularly (then Dayton and Richmond make it from time to time). Most of the CAA teams are closer. We could get a little rivalry with UNCW going. JMHO, I hate conferences that don't meet their names. How can you call a conference with Dayton, Xavier, Douquesne and St. Louis "Atlantic" anything?
In football, "get to FBS ASAP" is still at least 10 years away at the absolute minimum (I still predict 2025 is our first year in FBS). I understand the fit with the Big South, but I think the CAA should be given a hard look.
Will play 5 seasons as FCS Independent or 2 Indy and 3 Big South and then move up to FBS for the 2018 seaon. Mark it down.
J....your post is pretty good for the most part, until you got to the end. Charlotte will be FBS within 5-7 years, MAXIMUM. Mac Everett and his team recommended it and the admins. will not go against that. They have followed every recommendation so far and that will not change.
Not if your football teams stinks or it cannot draw.
Chad, if we stink at FCS then that's just MORE reason to fast track to FBS. Folks care about FBS a lot more and would be even more interested in coming to FBS games. Same for recruits and sponsors.
"J" I'll tell you the first thing loosers will do, "MAKE EXCUSES!"
This gets into their DNA. And then if the organization gets serious about changing their course, they first face reality and then they begin the process of changing their culture by make a change from the top down.
Bye Bye Phil "Howard", Bye Bye Judy "Floyd", and bye bye Major "Barney".
I sincerely believe that joining the A-10 and the transition to that conference is the single worse mistake the Niner's have made in the 40+ years of basketball. The Niner's are no longer even an afterthought in THIS area..much less in the country.
tell that to the 6000+ that still come to Halton every game......still better than 75+% of the nations teams.
You are using old attendance numbers. Not this years numbers. And I wish every game was a sell out.
Headed to Atlantic City for the A-10 Tournament. I'll give a minute by minute report on how Majors "Barney" and Judy "Floyd" are doing. Should not be a hard job since they are the only two from Charlotte that will be attending the tournament. Now that's Leadership you can be proud of.
I can hear them now. Judy Floyd saying "I'm so pleased with the direction we headed", and Barney Majors saying "It's the players fault!"
You can get it all in UNC-Mayberry Gazette

HEY YO. Do us a favor. GET OUT of our conf. You're stinking it up making us look bad. Fordham gets a pass because they're Jesuit. Sure its fun kicking yo around but its killing our reputation and lowering our quality. Either get out or we kick you out. Take yer pick. There are easier leagues.
Now scram get out.
Three Philly members.

Sure are a lot of anonymous comments on here.
6000+ that still go to halton every game ... BAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHHAHHAHAHAHHHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHAHAAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHA
Apparently those laughing at the attendance in for the Niners never go to the games. I am a season ticket owner - missed one game this year.

Average just over 6000 fans a game. Not too bad for a team that their own town laughs at and only won 10 games.
Half time & Dayton holds a 9 point lead over Xavier. They could have played this game on a street court half way between these 2 schools and their fans would have been there hanging on the chain link fence cheering their team on. No love lost between them.
Down by 13 Xavier appears rattled
Down by 17 Xavier vales time out. Dayton is shooting the eyes out
The over head video is awful at the A-10 Tounament
Xavier mounts a come back as they cut it to 6 with 8 minutes left. Wearing my UNCC hat. The only thing worse than hate is pity.
Xavier ties it with 2 1/2 minutes left 64-64
Dayton shoots 2 FT with 5 seconds left for come back victory over Xavier. Temple now has the inside track to win it's 4th straight A-10 conference championship
Duquesne & St. Joe's are getting ready to start. Enjoying the A-10 Tournament. But it feels like what I think it would feel like to go to a prom by yourself. Where's Charlotte?
Sloppy sloppy sloppy game b/w Duq & st. Joe's. Any team that finished lower than them in the conference is BAD in a bad way
Duq & St. Joe's goes to overtime as SJ ties it up with 1.5 seconds on the clock.
5379 in attendance for the first 2 games of the A-10 Tournament. St. Joe's wins 93-90
Win or lose it is obvious that Temple are the big boys of the A-10. Their fan base is large & loud. They walk with a swagger. When they play the arena starts filling up.
7321 attended the last 2 games of the A-10 Tournament tonight.
Jim Baron of URI was one of the coaches of the Dream Team.
Richmond is the Little Train That Could. With just over 3000 students they keep climbing up the mountain. Well coached. A little short on talent, but a big heart. Richmond recruits East Coast not just Virginia.
Charlotte has the best mascot in the A-10.
I would love to be able to compare the attendance for the quarter round of the A-10 with the Southern, Colonial, and ACC.
If a third A-10 team is going to make the NCAA someone must upset Temple (not an easy task). Richmond gets a shot at them today. Temple plays bigger but Richmond plays with heart
Hey attendance guru, that was TICKETS SOLD. If you actually attended the games, you would know actual attendance at Halton was about 60 percent of those numbers. Even students weren't showing up at the end (remember you sell season tickets before the season starts. can't wait to see what next year numbers look like).
The sound of a bouncing ball in an empty gym can be deafening.
