Sirin leaves 49ers

Sophomore Gokhan Sirin is leaving the 49ers' men's basketball team.

Sirin, a 6-9 forward from Istanbul, Turkey, plans to transfer, but didn't say where.

Sirin was mostly used as a 3-point shooting specialist last season and made 43.1 percent of his shots. He averaged 3.3 points and 1.2 rebounds.

“I enjoyed my time at Charlotte, but I feel I need to find a better situation for myself,” said Sirin in a statement released by the school.

“We thank Gokhan for his efforts this season as a 49er,” coach Alan Major said. “We wish him the best in all of his future endeavors.”

I think we can survive without Gokhan's 1 three pointer a game and slug like defensive skills.

NinerNation believed this guy to be the 2nd coming of Plavich. Of course, they hype up every recruit and go by the highlights from midnight madness.

Plavich? I thought he was more like a Jobey Thomas...
And he could have been if Lutz had stayed!

Niner Nation we got problems. Two players lost during the playing season. One leaves today. We don't make the Atlantic 10 Tournament (the Atlantic 10 Tournament).

We should just fold the program and allocate all the money to baseball

Yeah you only got one problem. Your problem is that you go to crappy school with a crappy athletics department.

The main problem is that we have an athletics department that acts as if it is in the ACC or Big East. Not too far down the hall, Karen Aston decided to leave and take her 1st assistant. Major will have to develop a work ethic and go after some talented role players. Let's face facts..Charlotte is not going to win the recruiting battle against the bigger schools. The coaching staff has snubbed good local and regional recruits to pursue the nation's elite. They all decided to play somewhere else. The women's program saw this coming and recruited regionally and locally (won 27 games and an A10 Championship) and proved it was the best way to go. Unfortunately, the support was never there-fans and administration! So a great staff walked. Major's needs to find the best kids that want to be at Charlotte and we have to support them or they will go too!

Beat the ACC in recruiting, are you kidding! We are not beating Davidson or Liberty for the best recruits. We are not beating Coastal Carolina and Charleston for the best recruits. We are not beating Wofford and Richmond for the best recruits. We are not beating George Mason and VCU for the best recruits. We are not. We are not. We are not. We are not.

In fact we should change our name to the Knotheads
