FCS teams dropping from Charlotte 49ers' football schedules

As Charlotte moves to Conference USA in 2015, here are some more football scheduling changes involving games with Football Championship Series opponents:

-- The Georgia Southern and Furman series have been completely dropped, making it easier for Charlotte to schedule at least five FBS foes at home. Charlotte had games scheduled with Georgia Southern in 2014 (home) and '15 (away); with Furman in '14 (away) and '16 (home).

-- At Richmond's request, the Spiders are now off Charlotte's schedule in '16 and '17.

-- The Western Carolina home game in 2015 has been moved to a later year, which has yet to be determined. The 49ers will still play at Western in 2014.

SoCon teams are afraid of a startup?

SoCon teams want a payout from a soon to be FBS team.

SoCon teams are not afraid of a start-up. It makes no sense for them to schedule a team like UNCC who will play them once at the FCS level and once at the FBS level. Odds are UNCC would probably still lose to teams like Georgia Southern and Richmond their first year or two in FBS, but those teams would rather play Georgia Tech or UVa, get a larger payout and more attention. Odds are that all the FCS teams dropping UNCC already have games lined up those years against much bigger and much better FBS teams, and don't want to wate their one FBS game on UNCC.

Too bad nobody wants UNCC on their schedule. It's a "guaranteed" win, so schools want more of a challege. Beating a school by more than 50 points is not that impressive to the BCS schools.

UNCC needs to schedule more games against Chowan, Gaston College, etc...it'll be at least a decade or more before they can compete with App or ECU (which really isn't saying too much). Just sayin'

If you look at Richmond and Georgia Southern, Richmond already has Virginia on their schedule in 2016 and Georgia Southern is playing LSU in 2014 and Georgia Tech in 2015.

Thanks to all the haters for supporting the Charlotte 49ers. The more clicks you give us, the more stories you'll see.

I think it will take between 30-40 decades for Charlotte to catch up to an 8-4 FCS school.

50 years from now, UNCC will lose to App State by a score of 800 to Negative 7. Coach Moore'll find a way to hold UNCC to Negative 7 points.

50 years from now CrApp will still be reminiscing about Armani Edwards and the big Meatchicken win of 07.

And they will still be FCS.

hey yo, The dumb gimmick shallow sports name lacks depth character and really suxx ...

UNC-Charlotte 49ers on the other hand is a winner and shows distinction class and intelligent style.

The A-10 snickered 10 yrs and finally kicked a groveling sobbing Rose out of the league. Now the Sun Belt will snicker and have a new whipping boy/girl...

"UNC" is required for viability and to lose the 2nd class inferiority complex. The UNC name strikes fear and doubt into all opponents and many crumble.

But then again success can be threatening so ROSE demands to remain bottom feeder gluttons for punishment... kick me, beat me, whip me ...

Idiots.....Charlotte dropped these schools (except for Richmond, which we may have planned to drop as well) from its schedule, not the other way around......read much, people?

in 10-15 years Charlotte will have one of the best football program in North Carolina

Slim Shady - what are you talking about? ECU has a football team?

Oh, yeah, that's right, they do. A third-rate team that thinks 2 wins over NC State over a 20-year period make them deserving of a BCS conference spot. Whatever. Enjoy your two wins over UAB and Memphis (2 teams that the 49ers could beat right now with their 27 redshirt freshmen). We'll walk all over you by the time we get to C-USA in '15. Don't worry; Coach Lambert is all class. He'll put all the 4th-stringers in the game in the third quarter and instruct them not to run up the score on you.

There is a lot of fine gold out there in streams, rivers, beaches and even deserts. Recovery has always been a problem. Most standard sluice boxes barely touch the stuff. I mean you lose more fine gold out of your sluice box than you recover.

J, you may be right 2 wins over NC State might not make a BCS quality resume. But wins over Virginia Tech, UNC, West Virginia and Boise State in the last 5 years sure hold up nicely on that resume. Oh, and 2 Conference USA Championships dont hurt either. Get some facts straight (3 wins vs NC State since 1999), get a little tradition going and if we're still around to see you 2015, we'll show you what college football is all about.

Go Pirates!

The best teams in charlotte in a couple years in order are.
1.Panthers
2.Hounds
3.Checkers
4.Copperheads
5.Bobcats
6.Soccer
7.UNCC
Also UNCC can support a BCS team but cant produce one. App cant support one but can produce one so if they switch places the world will be great.

Since the Observer already buries almost all 49ers news to this blog, It has to take some considerable effort for you trolls to come here and post the fecal matter your tiny brains produce.

It is very likely UNCC cancelled Ga Southern and probably even Furman because they don't want to risk FCS losses.

Could you people be any more clueless.... Charlotte has to make room for atleast 5 home games vs. FBS teams in 2015. That is why these FCS games/series were dropped.

Anonymous said...

Wow! Some people must really choose to not read the article. Charlotte dropped these clowns not the other way around. Richmond no doubt saw their dismissal letter coming and wanted to save face by being proactive.

ECwho? barley even has a football team and is completley irrelevent in all sports. EZU will never move because it is a bad school and no other conference wants to be affiliated with it. Thats just the truth.

The Appy's are still upset that thier community college got skipped over for football, and instead the offer went to a real school. Appy will still be FCS in 10-20 years.

UNCC, ECU, and App State are all bad schools. At least ECU and App don't have delusional alums who actually think they went to some kind of academic powerhouse. At least App and ECU offer a real college experience. Just looking at App and UNCC's admissions page, App is probably a little bit harder to get into.

So UNCC dropped Furman for Wesley? I wonder if UNCC will drop from #1 in both the AP and Coaches poll if they don't win by at least 100?

Anonymous said...

anon 3:33

still upset about not making the FBS cut?

Anonymous said...

3:36....you are clueless....Furman was dropped because it was a series which included a game in 2015. We now have no room for that FCS game in 2015. We must play 5 FBS home games. We had to drop several games in order to do that.

Anonymous said...

To Anon 3:33pm. UNCC, ECU, and App State are not bad schools. They are very good schools with some very good rankings. Each school stives to be better and to offer more courses to the public but there is this belief that UNC-Chapel Hill should get all the resources. Well, UNC-Chapel Hill has beeb around since the 1700's, I would expect them to be a good school and to have a high rating. However, if you live in Michigan or California, Chaple Hill is a joke because those schools outrank Chaepl Hill and they have not been around as much.

Lots of haters leaving comments... Y'all don't know sh-t! Instead, why don't you just be thankful for any school that starts a new program as it promotes opportunities for "the players" to succeed and helps the school grow as well. UNCC will have a great program. You also forget, while our BELOVED Panthers continue to struggle, Charlotte has heart and we have a lot of resources. Stay tuned haters!

Looks like they should have kept that Georgia Southern game on the books... As a Georgia Southern fan I'd like to play them. I dont know who canceled the series but it should come back.
