49ers looking for more juco prospects

The Charlotte 49ers are wasting no time in getting to work on filling the two available scholarships they have for next season, now that junior point guard Carlos Williams and freshman forward David Booker have elected to transfer.

At the moment the Charlotte coaching staff seems to have narrowed its focus to three available talented junior college players -- Charlie Coley, Schyler King and Ramon Clemente.

Coley is the fourth ranked juco in the country by jucojunction.com, a recruiting Web site for junior college players. The 6-foot-7 small forward for Dodge City (Kan.) Community College averaged 11.7 points and 10 rebounds for his team, which finished the year 26-6 and won the Jayhawk Western Conference for the second straight season.

King, a 6-6, 197-pound 3-point ace for Tyler (Texas) Junior College averaged nearly 12 points a game this season and shot nearly 37 percent from 3-point range.

Clemente, a 6-6, 225-pound forward for Paris (Texas) Junior College, is ranked 23rd nationally and averaged 13.9 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. He also shot 54.8 percent from the field.

Coley was originally going to make an official visit to campus this weekend, but timing issues have put off his visit until likely the weekend of April 20-22. Clemente has not yet agreed to make a visit, but the coaching staff expects an answer soon. -- Jim Utter

Attn Bobby Lutz......
Please stop wasting scholarship money to fill seats on the bench!
If you want to take a "chance" on unknown players, make it a four year player and stop wasting time with the Dump Trucks and players of the quality of Carlos Williams, Courtney Williams, CJ Pigford and the likes ! Learn to teach again
like you once did !

I couldn't agree more !!!!!
The quality of players on this team and dwindled for three years now. Not only was the A10 a step backwards for Niner fans, our recruting had fallen off the chart !

Because you could land a Cam Stephens or a San Colson or a Galen Young or a James Zimmerman or a Versile Shaw or a Marlon Thomas.
I am all for 4-year players, but if you think the 49ers can compete next eyar against that schedule with what we have returning, there is a slim chance we would finish .500.
Whose going to score besides Leemire? Phil is a first-year player who needs help. Hopeful ANjuan will be a stud. Hopefully we can hang on and play a very difficult early schedule until Gerrity becomes eligible in mid-Dec. I think we play Davidson, SIU and certainly the Virgin Islands Tourney without him.
We better get some help with JuCo's or it's going to be a tough start. Sorry to disagree with you guys.

JUCOS! JUCOS! JUCOS!

Bobby Lutz: Destroying a program two years at a time.

love that Bobby Huggins is leaving K State. Look at their message boards and they are worried about losing Beasley and cursing Huggins. What were they saying a year ago about themselves when they stood to gain by that sleezeball. Curious if Delonte Hill follows Huggins and takes Beasley with him or if Hill stays, gets named coach, in an effort to keep Beasley. Any word on this. Heck, let's get Hill back and bring back Beasley :)

It made my day for the K-Staters to find out what its like to be bitten by your own dog !!! Me may not have Beasley.....but their world may also be crashing down !
I think Mother Beasley need to call youn Michael and say enough is enough. Stop going with the sleeze and re-commit to Charlotte where you can be your own man and make a difference !!!
And JUCO's can make a difference once in a while, but we've become a haven for second rate players.

We have 8 Freshman and Sophomores for next year, 2 juniors and 2 seniors...SO WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT 2 YR PLAYERS???

We need IMMEDIATE help in the frontcourt where we lost a total of 5 guys (DA, EJ, Court, Coleman, Booker). These JUCOS are not bench fillers.

As far as recruiting goes, this class looks very good on paper: Jones, Wilderness, Ngoundo, Barnett, Mack, Harris and add Gerrity and Dewhurst sitting out.

I would put the JUCO's on the back burner for the moment, and concentrate on getting on of those signees who are sure to ask for their release for Kansas State. The KSU faithful were okay with it when Huggins stole Beasley from us, so they should be able to understand this. :-) Ha Ha Ha!

No one will be leaving KSU it looks like. They gave the head coaching job to an assistant, Frank Martin, and names Dalonte Hill Associate Head Coach. So it looks like they've salvaged Beasley, but guess what.....Huggy Bear won't have him !!!

I know we have struggled a lot....as a UNCC student it is very frustrating but I think you have to look at the move to the A10 as the real killer. Its ard to critisize Bobby in the recruiting pipline he is in. If you are a big time prospect why would you go anywhere in NC besides the ACC? I think the Charlotte coaching job is one of the hardest/worst in the country for that very reason. I had a chance to see Wilderness play a while back and the kid can play ball. I just wish we weren't in such a crap conference

Wow i just made the school look good with the above post. Sorry didn't proofread that one, looks like a second grader wrote it

Amen to the A-10 being a flop. The Sunbelt would have been as good!!! LOL !
I think a positive recruiting move would be to hire Demon Brown as a recruiting assistant! He played for us for "8" years and is at almost every home game, sitting right on the floor. He obviously loves the program and has the personality to relate to todays high schoolers and has the zeal to sell the program. All we need is one huge recruit to get it all started. Someone like Anthony McClain or Davilla from Booneville. And not let any more Jamie Skeens, Ishmail Smiths and Steph Currys slip through our fron door. And I agree, Anjuan Wilderness will make memories of Deangelo fade away quickly !!! If Phil Jones lives up to his potential.....with Leemire stepping up this season, if Bobby can gain control of everyone and come up with an offense that doesn't require everyone to "stand around" staring at the ball handler.....we sholu make the first step toward a better future !!! Go Niners baseball !!!

The Niners can be competitive if they utilize and nurture the talent they recruit. It is not a waste of time dealing with the Dump Trucks, Carlos W, CW and so forth, if you provide an unselfish playing environment and use all your recruits for the purpose of their talent. Pay attention to your Coach and watch how he intimidate players and take them out of their games. Do you critics know how Mr. Lutz speak to these young men. They are more worried about being pulled, not playing, and getting cursed out as opposed to concentrating on preforming to their fullest abilities. They are recruited under false pretenses and lied to in order to become Niners. Every Juco player had an option to play at other schools, WHY do you think they chose Charlotte. Oh yea, a great trainer. Leave the young men out of this, they are doing what the coach ask of them...shoot 3s!!!!

No more JUCO's! Bring some kids in from HS. Recruiting is a BIG part of Div. 1 coaching - get some talent - or develop some potential.

Andy Katz from ESPN says Bobby want out because like every Niner fan who pays to go to the games....he hate the move to the A-10. Nice move Judy, I thought only the fans were pissed about it !!!
