49ers basketball schedule taking shape

Although its 2008-2009 men's basketball schedule is far from complete, some of the Charlotte 49ers' nonconference schedule is beginning to take shape.
The 49ers are tentatively scheduled to open the season Nov. 14 at home against UNC Greensboro, one of at least three Southern Conference schools Charlotte will face this season. The 49ers will also play road games at Appalachian State and Davidson.
Charlotte has also tentatively scheduled three home games in December against Youngstown State, Long Island and Tulsa.
Long Island, of the Northeast Conference, finished 15-15 last season and had an RPI of 201 by collegerpi.com. Youngstown State, of the Horizon League, finished 7-21 last season and had an RPI of 227. Tulsa, of Conference USA, finished 25-14 last season and won the inaugural postseason College Basketball Invitational.
Charlotte also will host Winthrop of the Big South, and Clemson of the ACC, both likely in December, at Halton Arena. The matchup with the Tigers is a return game from last season, won by the 49ers at Clemsons' Littlejohn Coliseum. The game with the Eagles will be the first between the schools and first of a three-year contract.

Good to see the Spartans on the schedule. I can't remember the last time we played them.

On another note: I'm disappointed that we are taking on obscure and perpetually bad teams from the Northeast... other than in just our conference schedule.

Oh Schnapp!!!! That's one heck of a football schedule.

Oh!

Basketball?

Well that's not too bad either!

FOOTBALL NOW!!!!!!

It is about time we faced Winthrop. I know the local games against Wintrop, Davidson, and App State do nothing to boost our RPI or national recognition, but they are the most fun to attend. I hope we always schedule the SoCon teams, as long as we also schedule the ACC and SEC every year.

Maybe Judy Rose has her eye on a home-and-home with Iona, too.

The Niners could have had a game with Bob Huggins and West Virginia in Bobcats Arena if Lutz wasnt such a coward!

Looks like the "classless" St Bonaventure faithful will be back this year...

Dave:
Please let us know how you know that about WVU and the scared Lutz.
Do you think WVU would be a draw uptown?

I thought Lutz was criticized by the athletic department for scheduling mediocre opponents. This looks likes another weak schedule. I like Lutz as a person and he is probably the best coach Charlotte can find, but it is hard for me to get excited about another season of repeated three point bombs against 2nd tier opponents.

BOO!! Looks like we will have to wait for another Lutz contract year before we see quality 49er schedule again!

Lutz mentioned a home and home with WVU at his last AM Radio broadcast of the season. Used the same tired excuse 'we would rather play them in halton.' Check NNN its on there somewhere. The games at Bobcats arena had the biggest crowds of the season. With a chicken #### schedule like this you take that deal in a second! Would WVU be a bigger draw than Youngstown State? Most definetly!!
