Green, Braswell earn Atlantic 10 honors


Charlotte 49ers sophomore Derrio Green and freshman forward Chris Braswell earned Atlantic 10 Conference player and rookie of the week honors, respectively, on Sunday.

Green, a 6-foot, 160-pound guard, who transferred from Gulf Coast Community College in Florida, was named co-player of the week. He averaged 27 points and made 10 3-pointers in two Charlotte games this week - a win over Mercer and loss to Georgia Tech.

Green scored 23 points and added five rebounds and five assists on Dec. 29 in Charlotte’s 91-80 win over Mercer. He scored a career-high 31 points in the 49ers’ 76-67 loss to Georgia Tech on Jan. 2.

Braswell, a 6-foot-8, 235-pound freshman from Mt. Pleasant, Md., was named co-rookie of the week after averaging 11 points and 12.5 rebounds in two 49ers games. He scored 14 points and grabbed 14 boards in Charlotte’s win over Mercer and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and added eight points in the 49ers’ loss to Georgia Tech. He has reached double figures in rebounds six times this season.
