49ers, Knights to play exhibition

The Charlotte 49ers will play the Charlotte Knights in a baseball exhibition on April 5 at Knights Stadium in Fort Mill.

The game, which will start at 7:15 p.m., will last nine innings and both teams will use wood bats.

It's the first time the Class AAA Knights have played an exhibition against a college team. The Knights open their season April 7 at home against Norfolk.

“What a great opportunity for UNC Charlotte and our baseball program,” Charlotte coach Loren Hibbs said in a statement. “The Knights have been a major part of this community for years and we are very excited to enter in to a partnership with such a first class organization. This is a win-win situation for all of us.”

A portion of the ticket proceeds will go to the 49ers' baseball program. Ticket information will be released later.

  • Friday night, Charlotte starting pitcher Andrew Smith tied his career high with eight strikeouts, but the 49ers (10-3) could not get their offense going in a 7-1 home loss to Ball State (2-11).

Report from the A-10 Basketball Tournament. 9000 in attendance for semi-finals. Richmond knocked Temple out to meet Dayton for the Championship.

Richmonds guard (Anderson) is awesome. He's small but he can control a game.

Things I heard A-10 fans say. They think Duke has surpassed Carolina. They can't stand Coach K. Because they thnk he's the best.

They think the top 3 teams in the A-10 would go undefeated in Conference USA.

If they were Charlotte they would get of the A-10 too. They feel distance and the top teams in the conference are more than Charlotte can overcome.

Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just repeating what I heard

oh Charlotte CAN overcome the best of the A10 they just haven't done it YET. If they can outperform Louisville, Marquette and Memphis for 10 years in CUSA and be 2nd only to Cincy then they can certainly be among the best in the A10.

Wooden bats will be used against the Knights. Pro rules will be in effect.

Thanks Alex (above). Wooden bats means I'm in attendance for sure. This will be really cool!
