49ers sign Ivankovic

The Charlotte 49ers have signed former United Faith Christian center Ilija Ivankovic. Ivankovic has played the past two seasons at two junior colleges -- Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Fla., last season and San Jacinto (Texas) College in 2009-10.

The 6-foot-10 Ivankovic will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. He’s the fifth player signed by the 49ers for next season, joining center Mike Thorne of Fayetteville, forward E. Victor Nickerson of Norcross, Ga., and guards Terrence Williams of Charlotte and Pierria Henry of South Charleston, W.Va.

He can't score and he can't shoot Free Throws, but he's a good name for Scrabble. Wow. Where is this program going?

And still no PRINTED article about the 49er baseball team that's been nationally ranked for over half the season.

The lack of recognition is not surprising considering the current sports editor was adamantly opposed to us joining CUSA back in the mid 90s. According to a former Observer employee, he preferred us to know our place and join the Colonial Athletic Association instead of playing in the same conference as Louisvills, Cincinnati, Memphis, Depaul, UAB, and Marquette.

I'd rather have Ana Ivanovic

With all the talent in the area why would a coach even think of recruiting this guy?
He is a temporary fix due to his eligibility, we all know that. So why not start fresh with younger recruits that will be in for the long haul. Ask your self this would Duke or UNC recruit like this? Heck no! So why does UNCC? Here we go again. No wonder UNCC is treated like a step child. Desperate coaches that are insecure recruit like this.

He said PRINTED article. That means paper. Not internet. Good one. What does it matter if we get this guy or some freshman who will never play? This just means we only have to see him ride the pine for two years not four. This is the best recruiting class we have had in years. Also, the UNC Duke suck-up, you don't think they have guys who never play? We have signed 4 freshman this year that all play different positions. That is 4 years of the same guys (Basically a starting 5). Not counting 4 years of Luka, 3 years of mayfield, 2 more years of bras and KJ, etc. Leave Walmarts' college section and get some facts.

"This is the best recruiting class we have had in years" ROFLOL

I'm always glad to see us sign new players. Especially players with good size! Welcome to Charlotte!

Tell me the best recruiting class we have had? We have filled big holes (PG, SF, C) with big physical players. We have not had a solid SF in FOUR years. We have been stuck starting Bras at center when he does not need to be. Our PG last year was about 5'5" and was not a true PG and god help us if Green has to run point again. Now our PG will be about 6'2" - 6'4". So keep laughing on the floor of your trailer in your Chapel Hill Walmart tee shirt.

heee! Haaa! Heeeeeee! Haaaaa! Did he say, "best recruiting class ever". He didn't say that! Must not a been following Charlotte basketball for more than two years. Still ROFLOL! Rookie.

Jonathan,
The story was in that day's printed Observer, as was a feature about Tyler Barnette at the beginning of the season.

Thanks David. I don't get the printed so I was just stating what the previous had said. Keep up the good work!

I have been following for many years. In the past 5 years, name one class better than this one?

"Best recruited class ever". That's what you said. Have you ever heard the names Cornbread Maxwell & Melvin Watkins. "many years, last five years". Geeeeze!

and

"Tell me the best recruiting class we have had?"...this was in response to, ""This is the best recruiting class we have had in years" ROFLOL"

...so you are wrong. Yes I know those names. I said this is the best we have had in years. Its that simple. Never said this is the best ever.

Thanks

On April 28, 2007. "Hoop Scoop" had the Charlotte 49er's recruiting class ranked 13th in the nation a jump from 23rd.

HAHAHA. The Mack and Coley crew. You are honestly making my point for me. Mack was only good when Leemire was here. Coley was only good for dunks and blocks which he was great at. JB rarely played until this year with Major and was light years ahead of what we had seen. Phil Jones never reached his potential and had his best year this year, under Major, until not making grades. Who else was in that recruiting..Wilderness maybe? I know he came in 2007 and he never got better. His offense was awful. Ian came around that time..terrible. Dewhurst...terrible. You can trust your "Hoop Scoop" if you want..but I will trust the results of the players. I am not saying the kids coming in are going to be better because who knows. I do know that most of them have their heads on straight (Shamari, Phil, Anjuan) and are ready to work.

O! I understand you are the great guru that can see the future and you already know this is the greatest recruiting class ever. Who is a man suppose to trust Hoop Scoop or Potty Poop?

Fact is I hope they will be great! But the best they have been rated at this point is Top 10 of the Mid-Level. Which makes them one of the top 150 recruited classes in 2011.

I have more faith in this class and team of coaches that the past 5-10 years is what I am saying. However, you are stuck in 1977 and talk about cornbread and watkins. We have sucked since we have been in the A-10 and that was my point. With Bobby we relied on shooters and Jucos. That never won. We sucked last year because we had no one who fit the system. Look at this years recruits. Big, physical players. Major is known to be a big man specialist (look at KJ, JB and Phil) last year. Give him at least 50 games.

Jonathan, you might want to check the record book to see if Bobby's "shooters and jucos" ever won......what an idiot.
