The Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball team will face a difficult non-conference schedule in 2009-2010, particularly on the road.
The Observer, through sources and information from various schools involved, has confirmed nine of the 49ers’ non-conference opponents for next season, not including the four games Charlotte is guaranteed by playing in the NIT Season Tip-Off Tournament.
A pair of road games against national powers highlights the non-conference schedule. The 49ers will play at Big East champion Louisville on Saturday, Dec. 5 and at SEC power Tennessee on Wednesday, Jan. 6. Charlotte will also play at local rival Winthrop on Saturday, Dec. 19.
Charlotte will open the 2009-10 season with a home game against UNC Asheville. The 49ers will also play Georgia Tech of the ACC, Gardner-Webb, East Carolina, Mercer and Winston-Salem State all at Halton Arena. The dates of those games have not been confirmed.
Charlotte will get at least four games in the NIT Season Tip-Off and could add one more non-conference game before the schedule is officially complete.
The 49ers will once again play 16 Atlantic 10 Conference games. Unless there are last minute changes, Charlotte will once again play home-and-home series with Xavier, George Washington and Richmond.

Pretty sweet. The potential to play duke in the second round of the preseason NIT is pretty cool as well.
Play Duke...yeah right. That wont happen the 49ers always find a way to choke...
The Niners of old would win at least 2 of the 4 combined non-conference games against Duke, Louisville, Georgia Tech, and Tennessee. Let's hope we can return to the Niners we knew in the 90s and first half of this decade.
What incentive is there to buy season tickets with such a lackluster home schedule...embarrassing as usual.
Incentive? How about wins - something you guys didn't get many of last season.
Why not buy season tickets to watch the 49ers play? Who cares who we play? We only get 14-15 chances a year to watch a game at Halton.
Sounds simple. I am sure a troll will respond.
I just never understood why people worried who we played when we only have the opportunity at most 15 days out of 365!
Our home schedule sucks, but if those strong games can make us better, I will sacrifice my entertainment for a little conference championship or a win in the tourney.
