Men's soccer ties UNCG in shortened game

Andres Cuero and Charles Rodriguez score their first goals of the season as the Charlotte 49ers men’s soccer team tied UNC Greensboro 2-2 in a game that was stopped in the 75th minute due to unplayable conditions.

"This was two very good teams battling during very tough playing conditions," Charlotte coach Jeremy Gunn said. "For the entire second half, the field had standing water. ... I thought that both teams played good soccer in impossible conditions."

In the 74th minute, Rodriguez scored the game-tying goal on a bicycle kick off a Jennings Rex assist. The game was called just over a minute later.

The 49ers (4-1-2) finished the game with a 16-10 advantage in shots. Gross and James paced the 49ers with four shots apiece. Charlotte returns to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday when it plays at sixth-ranked Wake Forest.
