Women's soccer blanks N.C. State 1-0

The Charlotte 49ers women’s soccer team behind a goal from Kirby Stenard and a stout defense blanked ACC foe N.C. State 1-0 at Transamerica Field in its final non-conference game of the season.

The 49ers (6-2) defense recorded their fifth shutout of the season while limiting N.C. State (5-2-1) to only five shots.

"We had a very successful weekend," Charlotte coach John Cullen said. "We did not concede a goal in either one of two games this weekend. I was pleased with our team’s defense today to limit a very good N.C. State team to no goals and only five shots is fantastic.

"I was pleased with our overall performance today. We did a good job of possessing the ball and controlling the play."

Stenard recorded her second straight game-winning goal when she deflected a Sam Huecker corner kick into the right side of the goal in the 53rd minute. Stenard’s goal was her third of the season.
