49ers golf looking for fifth straight title

The Charlotte 49ers men's golf team will begin its quest for its fifth consecutive championship in its own Palisades Collegiate Golf Classic on Monday. Practice rounds begin Sunday for the 54-hole tournament at Palisades Country Club in Charlotte.


Charlotte, Belmont Abbey and Davidson share in hosting the event, which also includes Elon, Francis Marion, Kennesaw State, Longwood, Louisville, Marquette, Nebraska, Old Dominion, Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth, West Florida and Winthrop.

Tournament play begins with 36 holes on Monday, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The field will play 18 holes to complete the Classic on Tuesday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Parking and admission are free.

This is the third year the Palisades Country Club has hosted the tournament, the 12th year of the tournament and the 11th consecutive year the Charlotte Regional Sports Commission has handled the administration and operation of the Classic. Charlotte has won the past four tournaments.
