Niners blank South Carolina in softball

Charlotte 49ers pitcher Emily Jeffrey picked up her 14th win of the season as the 49ers took a 2-0 home victory over South Carolina on Wednesday.

Jeffrey, who starred at Butler High, recorded her fifth shutout of the season with a complete-game four-hitter. She has not lost a start since Feb. 25 and has an ERA of 0.51 during the streak.

“Emily just loves the big game. She continues to stay in a groove and has just been phenomenal,” said Charlotte coach Aimee DeVos.

Charlotte is 19-8. South Carolina is 14-16. Charlotte returns to Atlantic 10 play Saturday with a pair of games at La Salle.
