The Charlotte 49ers women’s tennis team, seeded fifth, won the third-place match 4-3 over No. 3 seed Xavier on Sunday at the Atlantic 10 Championships in Monroeville, Pa.
In singles, the 49ers (16-5) were able to capture four of the six singles matches for the victory, capped off by Yudeshnee Pillay winning her No. 2 singles match 6-4,
7-5 for the team win.
Charlotte also won at No. 1 (Ana Spivakovsky, 6-2, 6-3), No. 3 (Koren Fleming, 6-1, 6-2)and at No. 6 in a third-set tiebreaker by Kimber Redfern, 2-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-8).
Pillay finishes the season with 25 singles wins (25-4) - one short of the school record - set by Spivakovsky in 2007. She was 19-1 in the spring dual match season, losing only her match on Saturday in the A-10 semifinals.
