The Charlotte 49ers softball team claimed their second tournament title in as many weeks by defeating Marshall 2-0 in the Green & White Tournament championship game on Sunday. Former Butler High star Emily Jeffrey struck out eight en route to her third win of the tournament and eighth of the season and she was named the tournament's Most Valuable Pitcher.
"It was another great weekend for our team and I'm very pleased with the improvements we have made on defensive end," Charlotte coach Amiee DeVos said. "We have once again been getting timely hitting."
Marshall's Rebecca Gamby was named the tournament MVP with her six hits on the weekend. The 49ers (11-1) return to action Tuesday, hosting Furman in a doubleheader that begins at 3 p.m.
