Charlotte track coaches receive honors

The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) has named Charlotte 49ers head coach Bob Olesen and assistant coach Timothy Vaught to the regional coach of the year squads in the Southeast region.

“I think this is a tremendous commentary from our peers on the job that we are all doing here at Charlotte. Also, Tim and I just want to thank the athletes, coaches and administrative staff for making these awards possible for us,” said Olesen on the accomplishment for him and his colleague.

Olesen and Vaught are two of only three coaches, nationally, from non-BCS conference schools to make the coach of the year lists.

I wonder if this news will make the Observer in print instead of hidden away in a blog.

It is great to see the 49er's cross country coach honored for his coaching. It is also great that the Observer actually reported it. It is too bad that the last time I regularly saw cross country listed on the front page of the sports section was when Amy Herrman was running and East Mecklenburg was winning state championships.
