Women's soccer adds six recruits


The Charlotte 49ers women’s soccer team, which has won three straight Atlantic 10 titles, has received six commitments for 2009. The 49ers return 10 starters for first-year coach John Cullen.


Charlotte's recruiting class includes: Jessica Barton of Jacksonville, N.C.; Carrie Dail of Hubert; Lacey McGowan of Fayetteville, Ga.; Jennifer Nye of Huntersville; Taylor Rovito of Pittsboro; and India Winford of Winston-Salem.


Barton, a 5-foot-6 goalkeeper, was a three-time All-State selection at Jacksonville High School. Dail, a 5-foot-5 midfielder , was a three-time NSCAA All-Region selection and as a sophomore helped Swansboro High win the 2006 state title. McGowan, a 5-foot-9 defender, is a three-time All-Region selection and led Whitewater High to the 2007 Georgia 4A state title.


Nye, a 5-foot-5 defender, earned all-conference honors in 2007. She played at Hopewell High for former 49ers women’s soccer standout Lindsey Ozimek’s husband, Eric. She helped Hopewell capture a conference championship in 2006. Rovito, a 5-foot-4 defender, earned All-Region and All-State honors at Green Hope High. Winford, a 5-foot-4 forward/midfielder, is a three-time NSCAA All-Region selection.
