Coley gets tryout with Harlem Wizards

Before he makes his appearance in ESPN's 21st annual Slam Dunk and Three-Point Championship next week, Charlotte 49ers senior forward Charlie Coley will make a slight detour to New Jersey to play with the Harlem Wizards.

The Wizards team dates back to 1962 and does not focus on winning. Instead, its aim is to entertain crowd using a variety of basketball tricks and alley oops. The team performs at various special occasions, such as fundraisers or sporting events.

Coley put down 55 dunks this year and finished his two-year career with 102 dunks, second all-time in 49ers history. The athletic leaper has put on shows with his acrobatic dunks, jumping over players, chairs, tables and stationary bikes.

"It's a little step in my life," said Coley about his tryout with the Wizards. "I'm excited to be still playing basketball. It's nice to know I could keep waking up and going to work doing something I love. It's just a start, but it's a good start."

Coley is on track to graduate during the summer. The slam dunk contest will air 9-11 p.m. April 2 on ESPN from the Palace at Auburn Hills in Detroit.

Can someone atthe Observer tell us why the Observer pulled Thursday's article about the 49ers defeating UNC-Chapel Hill? I heard the article was slated for the front page, but after the 49ers won the Observer decided to pull the article.

Good Luck . . . with getting an answer from the "regional paper". Besides, they're not "responsible" for such coverage.

Tar Heel wannabes, all of ya.

Why did some idiot say "tarhole wannabee"? Who said that? The same guy that pulled the naseball article from the front page just because the 49ers beat the tarholes?

Congrats to Coley. We're all pulling for him.

Because that's what you all do is whine and cry about the Tar Heels instead of paying attention to your own crappy teams. Oh wait, I just answered my own question. That IS why you whine and cry about the Tar Heels. Cause your school sucks. And that's why Walmart has a store full of Tar Heels gear - people actually BUY it and CARE about that team.

The Observer is probably a success because it doesn't cover crappy Charlotte. For the same reason Walmart sells tons of Tar Heels stuff. HAHAHAH

Yeah, you're probably right. Walmart sells a bunch of crap to inbred redneck morons who've never stepped foot on ANY college campus. Wow, I bet you are one of them.

Nice job Charlie, I am proud of you... guys, take the UNC-CH banter somewhere else... please.

Charlotte fans spend more time talking about the Tar Heels than they do their own pathetic athletic teams. How's that baseball team now?? HAHAHAHA
